The Atik 450L is the first camera available to astronomers that uses Sony’s excellent ICX655 5MP sensor. This is one of the latest generation of Sony devices and shows the results of Sony’s continued development to reduce thermal and read noise, while providing an increasing number of pixels and good quantum efficiencies.

The 5MP sensor is an ideal match for shorter focal length refractors and HyperStar systems, giving DSLR levels of resolution in a camera optimised for deep-sky astrophotography.

The Atik-4 Series cameras are a development of the 3-Series cameras, featuring a narrower body. These are particularly suitable if the camera is to be placed in front of the telescope in HyperStar or Fastar systems.. The cameras feature setpoint cooling with a capacity of -30C below ambient to make taking matching dark frames a snap, and convenient 12V power requirement to facilitate field operation.
