About this product

Model:  dobsky150
Part Number:  10716

Sky-Watcher Dobsonian telescopes provide good all-around performance for observing the Moon, planets, Deep Sky Objects and nebulae.

The Dobsonian mount, popularised by John Dobson in the 1970s, is a simple and efficient method of mounting a Newtonian reflector.

Based on the Alt-Azimuth principal, Dobsonian telescopes are fast and easy to set up. A box-type mounting allows the telescope to pivot in altitude while the box is rotated on a base in azimuth. The secret of the design is correctly balancing the optical tube and using materials that enable it to move easily when nudged but stay in position when not.

The mount is designed to be driven by hand. It does not have slow-motion controls.

My brother recommended the telescope and your company for a present for my sons 21st birthday. He is absolutely delighted with it. It came within 2 days of ordering it too!

Great service Sky Watcher 150p
24 May 2021  |

Ordered my Sky Watcher 150p last Saturday night, was processed by Monday morning and was delivered on Wednesday. Should have been Tuesday, but the delay was down to DHL, not FLO. The scope is oretty straight forward to assemble, as long as you follow the instructions and take your time. Once assembled, it is obviously a great scooe, very good quality.
As othershave said, it can be broken down to 2 main parts, for moving around, but honestly, I can lift it around easily in one piece and I am not he man. Lol

I have only had about 1 hour of use, because of the weather. Looked at the moon, with the 10mm lens and wow! Insanely great views and sharpness. I can't wait to get a clear night, without wind and rain, to really appreciate it.

I researched a lot, before buying my first scope and kept getting drawn to this particular scope. Seemed like the best bang for the buck and more user friendly.

I will 100%use FLO again and will definitely recommend them to anyone else. Many Thanks

Beginner to astronomy
30 December 2020  |

I'm an an absolute novice and, having done a fair amount of research (and asking annoying questions on UK astronomy forums!) people seemed to be steering me towards a dobsonian telescope. I considered aperture, FOV, budget and complexity of use, and the 150p seemed to hit the sweet spot across those indices. November 2020 seemed to be a bad time to buy a scope as demand was up, and stock levels all over the place with COVID product procurement leaving supplies depleted across the board. I think I'm fairly typical of first time buyers, so thought I'd divide my review into two sections: the service from FLO, and the product itself.

Service- FLO processed the order quickly, and I knew when ordering that there was an advised waiting time of 25-30 working days as they were still waiting on stock. I noticed a few weeks later that on the website the waiting time for new orders was up to 30-40 days (in retrospect, it's probably because the stock they were waiting on had all been purchased and this was the next batch) but, as an enthusiastic person eager to get his paws on the telescope, I sent FLO a quick email. They were responsive, informative and really polite answering my queries. They let me know about the delays at the UK docks and the information they had at their disposal. I then realised that the telescope may possibly arrive when I was due to have left for christmas (pre the new lockdown restrictions being announced on Dec 20th) and contacted them to check it wouldn't arrive when I was away. They responded quickly and helpfully saying they could delay the dispatch if necessary but I wouldn't lose my place in the queue. Then lo and behold, a christmas miracle occurred! 23rd December I received an email saying my product was dispatched and would arrive on 24th December (unfortunately without 3 wise men accompanying it but there's plenty of them (and wise women) on the UK Astronomy forum!). The delivery company arrived in the specified time window despite it being the peak of christmas. I was very happy with FLO and their handling of the order (and my pestering emails ). The product arrived despite all the COVID difficulties well within the advised delivery window.

Product- Two large boxes arrived at our door much to my girlfriend's amusement. Even in my state of delirious excitement, I was able to assemble the telescope fairly easily in around 30-40 minutes. All of the tools were included which is a nice touch. Once assembled, the telescope looks amazing, and I'm very happy with the quality of the product. The ledge for your eye pieces is very thoughtful and everything comes with protective lens caps. The mount is very easy to use and feels sturdy and secure. My only comment to add is I struggled to align the finderscope with the main scope and spent about 90 mins trying to work out why the alignment adjustment screws just wouldn't align the two! I finally resolved this when I realised the stable screw for the finderscope pulls in and out so I didn't have the finderscope in fully when trying to align! I'm happy to accept this as a product of my own stupidity however but thought I'd let others know to save them time!

Being Brighton in December, we've had nothing but cloud! But I've been using the scope from indoors through a window. As I couldn't align the finderscope, there was a fair amount of just randomly pointing the scope around using luck to stumble across the moon, but then I finally hit it! The view of the moon through the 25mm eye piece (included) took my breath away- even my fairly disinterested girlfriend was aghast at the views. Beginner note- 25mm is less zoom and perfect for the moon, 10mm (also included) is more zoom for objects further away. Once I'd cracked the finderscope being in the right place, I found it easy to align and the focuser is simple to use even for an absolute beginner. My final comment is you get a lot of telescope for your money however the trade off is this is a relatively large scope. For context I'm a relatively fit and healthy 37 year old male and I can move it whole around my flat without too much issue. I live in a block of flats but have outdoor space available to me on the ground floor. The telescope is easy to detach from the mount and you can move the 2 separately making it simpler to transport into a car or even carry outside if necessary.

Other advice- it is really difficult taking a photo through the lens on a smartphone, but I don't own a DSLR camera. I want to see how I get on before investing more money but I've ordered a moon lens (they can be purchased from £10 upwards) and an adapter to hold your smartphone onto the lens, I suspect anyone met with such breathtaking views from their dob would want to take a few cheeky snaps of it, adding a phone adapter to your order is a good idea! Final advice is FLO also offer a free smartphone app called clear outside to give you really useful and detailed info on the weather, clouds, visibility etc, definitely download this!

Apologies for the essay, and clear skies anyone reading this. I would happily recommend FLO to anyone.

Great telescope and service
21 September 2020  |

I purchased this for my husbands birthday and knew there would be a delay and we wouldn’t get it until November but we got it in September, fantastic service and communication with the team. The telescope is great and my husband loves it

I wanted a decent quality scope and this was suggested by "go stargazing" group on Facebook and I'm so happy with it. Such a good price for beginners to afford

Fantastic first serious scope
14 February 2020  |

I bought this scope as my first serious scope to replace an under-£100 refractor on a terrible mount. As soon as i got this assembled out the box and used it i was blown away. Found Orion Nebula without even trying - didn't even know it existed - and was a fantastic view. Great views of the moon too.

The action of the mount is great, it stays put where you tell it to, unlike my old one!

I can just about move the tube and mount together but it's very cumbersome. Take them separately and it's no trouble for me at least.

I'm new to astronomy and haven't had the clear skies to observe much else yet, so i can't give more of a review, but i would definitely recommend this. The only thing is the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that i should've gone one bigger and got the 8"!

Great scope
21 May 2014  |

I have had this scope for several months now, I am very pleased with it. I upgraded the stock eyepieces, I have seen a lot of things through this scope, Orion nebula, M13, M51, M3 etc as well as several planets, very easy to use and not to heavy, I put a Telrad on it and use sky maps, makes life very easy. So glad I started with this scope, its built to last. First class service from FLO, I had it the next day after ordering.

A quality product at a good price
17 May 2011  |

This dobsonian telescope was easy to assemble - with the OTA and mirror already assembled, all I had to do was to put the plywood base together and fit the OTA to it. It is also quite light and easy to carry, the azimuth movement smooth, which can be ideal for kids who are seriously into astronomy, or for those who would like to observe at a darker location.
The primary mirror is of great quality, and views of Saturn were pretty crisp. I haven't viewed all of the Messier objects through it, I managed to see M13 partially resolved around the outer edges - the Ring Nebula is visible, more so with averted vision. A great scope for a beginner!
