For a long time I had been searching for a way to add filters: EG: H-Alpha, Light Pollution, Sulpha, Oxygen ETC to the image train of my Esprit 100ED, when all of a sudden, this unit appeared !!
I was curious to see if it was going to work with my standard setup incorporating the OEM Field flattener that came with my Esprit 100ED. I was a bit worried that it may affect the back focus and thus end up with oblong stars in the edges of my images ? Where I live my backyard is a haven for light pollution. 1) being only 30kms from the city of Melbourne 2) recently installed LED streetlights 3) Neighbours that insist on turning their outside lights on seemingly when ever I setup for a nights imaging, So I was interested in trying out H-Alpha, Recommended by Trevor Jones from Astro Backyard. Was this filter Cell going to be the answer ?
I purchased the Astro Essentials Filter Cell Adapter & a 2" H-Alpha 7nm filter, both arrived within a week and AMAZINGLY the clouds went away for a night however it was a full Super moon the previous night, I was sceptical, So after fitting the filter into the Cell and then the Cell between the flattener & Focuser I setup for a nights imaging with fingers crossed, My Target was the Running Chicken Nebula. I got things polar aligned and slewed to my target and set my trusty Canon 5D MKII going for a total of 50 X 5 minute images. After stacking the images with 20 Dark frames in Deep Sky Stacker and processing the final image in Photoshop CC I was pleasantly surprised that I had a beautiful clear Red image of the Running Chicken with pin point stars right to the edge of the image. I would highly recommend the Astro Essentials Filter Cell Adapter for Esprit Flatteners to anyone owning any of the SkyWatcher Esprit 80/100/120/150 OTA's as this is a solution if you are looking at using 2" screw type filters without compromising your flat field..
