Wood has a number of properties that make it the ideal material for supporting astronomy mounts. Not only does it look fantastic and is warm to the touch (great for cold winter nights under the stars) but Ash wood in particular has excellent vibration damping characteristics, which is why it is used for hammer handles and Berlebach tripods.
The Planet is Berlebach's most stable stable wooden tripod. Features include large wood cross-sections, newly designed clamping elements and a high load capacity for excellent stability with minimum vibration.
The ultra-flat design of the new tripod head with 105 mm leg joints guarantees maximum torsional stiffness.
If you are familiar only with steel pipe tripods then you are in for a treat!
Note: Now features a modified wood profile shape that has increased maximum load capacity from 100 kg to 120 kg.

Beautiful to look at. The Planet was an excellent upgrade to my Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ6 mount. Very solid! Kudos to FLO for quick shipping, actually arrived 2 days early and Iím in the US. Tripod was double boxed, received in perfect condition! Warning! Box did contain clouds!

I ordered a Berlebach Planet at the last minute after several weeks contemplating and planning to buy a Berlebach Uni. I figured for the additional expense of a planet over a uni i should get a tripod "for life". This feels like a tripod for life. It is quite heavy no doubt but feels as solid as a rock and is nice looking to boot. Recommended. Arrived less than 48hrs after ordering from FLO.

I've used Berlebach UNI & Report tripods for years and always been impressed with their stability and damping properties. The Planet tripod elevates these properties to an entirely new level. It's overkill for the roughly 20kg of mount and equipment that I currently use on it. However, the confidence that this excess capacity gives in use is well worth the additional cost and weight of the Planet over its lighter (and cheaper) cousins.

Bought this tripod as a replacement for my UNI-18 and am surprised at how much more solid it feels. Well worth the difference in cost. Usual Berlebach quality fit and finish. Yes it is expensive but you wonít be disappointed when you get your hands on it.

I already had a uni for my eq6-r but I was increasing my kit weight so wanted extra overhead.
The uni is great but the planet is a monster No doubt it will be even better. Looks great as well

I was tossing up between this and the Ioptron tri-pier and went with the Planet and glad I did so. I totally agree with the other review, this tripod is a perfect match for my az-eq6 and also wanted to thank Grant from FLO for all his help in answering my many questions.

The tripod is very stiff, vibrations damping are excellent and it fits perfectly with the AZ-EQ6! The FLO version comes with rubber feets and the double clamps which is just perfect. The price with these extra accessories is very competitive! The load capacity with the double clamps can reach 264lbs and the tripod only weights 11kg / 24 lb.
I would recommand the "Planet" version over the "UNI 18" or "UNI 28" for the EQ6/AZEQ6! The circular spirit bubble level is surprisingly very precise (far better than the one on the AZ-EQ6), I don't need my other one bought in a DIY store anymore! To crown it all, the wood is very beautiful and still transportable with an excellent ratio weight / load capacity !
