Preparation is key!

I'm really impressed with this flocking material. It's very dark and stopped all internal reflections inside my skywatcher 200p!
First off, I'd recommend to dismantle all internal parts and cutting the a length(s) of material of the scope. Clean the inside of the scope and lightly vacuum the material before you start to stick it. Once all fitted, i gave the material a few passes with a sticky lint roller which removed any remaining particles which also helped give it a nice uniform finish. I had enough left over to flock some other parts such as the guider plate and guide scope. No issues with stickiness or application and any bubbles are easily massaged out with a finger.

Great flock finish, not sticky enough!

Great finish to the flock, but sticky back not sufficiently sticky enough, will not even stick to itself? Wondering it requires a primer or heat, nothing on the instructions?

Great flocking material backed up with superfast post, thanks FLO. Btw, remember to give the flocking a brush and vacuum

Flocking MN190

Excellent service as usual, haven't tried it yet but it looks top quality material, very thin and extremely black with no reflection, I'm sure it will make an improvement to my OTA.

an amazing improvement

thought I would try and resurrect a Startravel 120 that has been unused for a few years. Having now used flocking for the first time it is really amazing the improvement that is achieved with such a small outlay. To remove loose fibers I pulled pieces of duct tape lightly over the surface in both directions. Will now do the same with a ST80

Very easy to use

I'm new-ish to astro but read about the contrast benefits with flocking. I bought a 1m roll for my 150 x 600mm refelctor and it was sufficient to do the job. I cut it into strips of approx 120mm x 500mm (or just below the spider to the primary mirror) and applied whilst the tube was laid flat, overlapping by approx 20mm. As other have suggested make sure to tape or vacuum the flock to reduce bits first. I then cut pieces to cover the end of the focuser tube and above the spider. Its easy to remove if you make a mistake and sticks more aggressively after a few hours. Looks neat and should do the intended job.

Amazing stuff!
27 January 2023  |

The black painted interior of my scopes tube (Celestron 925) became pitted and I was looking at options of paint etc when I was made aware of flocking on SGL. I contacted FLO and was given an excellent service with solid advice, which included FLO referring my issue to Celestron directly in the US. The overall consensus was to prep and paint the tube or flock it. The flocking seemed favourable due to ease and cost £7 a roll) so I ordered some from FLO. It within 2 working days, was very easy to apply and the results are amazing! So much of a darker black than any paint could offer and no more worries of the interior pitting. Such a cheap upgrade in comparison to other scope gear and definitely worth the purchase if you have similar issues. Of note, the pitting was due to excess condensation and nothing to do with the quality or build of the scope!

Good Stuff

Bought 2 rolls of this for my Skywatcher 200P, had enough left over to cover the focus tube. I can't believe how much darker the tube looks compared with how it was. Not had a chance to try it out yet due to the weather.

I haven’t had the chance yet to try this flocking out but on first impressions it looks and feels good. The delivery service was super fast. Ordered it on Thursday and it was here on the Friday 😊

It's easy to work with, sticks well, and inside the OTA is now pitch black.
