"Aimed at the beginner to Deep Sky astro-photography, new concepts are explained in plain terms ensuring the reader develops an understanding of the equipment and its use. Advice is based on tried and tested methods aimed at producing acceptable results early on by drawing on my own experiences as a beginner and those whom I have assisted in the past. The logical progression of an imaging session and subsequent post processing of the images is explored in depth in an easy to read and understandable style with numerous illustrations and examples to lead the beginner through to more advanced topics."  Steve Richards - Chanctonbury Observatory

"There are many books about astronomical photography, but none quite like this one – at least as far as I know. What Steve Richards has done is to begin at the very beginning. He assumes that his reader has absolutely no prior knowledge, and guides him (or her!) gently through to the stage of being able to take really good photographs. Steve Richards has therefore plugged a notable hole in the literature, and I can appreciate this particularly because I have always been a visual observer rather than a photographer." Patrick Moore

Great book
Wednesday, 17 June 2020  |

Just getting into Astrophotography, I have read forums, watched YouTube channels, researched a range of equipment, and listened to opinion for a couple of months now. Iím half way through this book and it clicks everything into to place. To topic is vast as you know, or will discover, but ĎMaking Every Photon Countí describes the beginners best way through the maze in a straight forward manner. It has helped my decide and define my order for my first deep sky setup, and also understand it a lot better. 4 stars because the font could be a little larger.

This is by far the best beginner book I have purchased, just wish I had found it before I got going with astrophotography! Not read it all yet but have learnt quite a lot so far.

Insightful essential book for beginners

As a photographer for nearly 18years Iím still learning to this day, and Astro photography is my latest adventure. This book contains a lot of helpful information on how to choose your equipment and breaks down the jargon in a way anyone can understand. I would recommend to anyone that is interested in buying into astronomy.

I give this book a 5 star review as a complete beginner to astrophotography and although this book is aimed just at that it carries on a bit further too. Many mysteries solved in just a few pages. Clear and honest advice about what to buy and not to buy. Excellent instructions. Highly recommended book.

Fantastic Book!
Saturday, 14 April 2018  |

I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to understand and process the information given. It will guide you step by step from telescope to cameras, mounts to software using easy to understand language rather than all the technical jargon that usually baffles the brain of a newbie.

If you had to choose one book then this should be that one!
