The Skywatcher Star Adventurer provides an excellent route into astrophotography for those using DSLR cameras with wide-field and medium focal length DSLR lenses. It's ease of use and aircraft-friendly size will also appeal to those wanting to travel to dark-sky locations.
Provides various combinations to satisfy your grab-&-go portable astrophotography needs. It is a precise, portable and stable celestial tracking platform for sidereal, solar and lunar tracking with automatic DSLR shutter release control.
The Star Adventurer Pro Pack (formerly known as 'Astro-Photo Bundle') includes the Star Adventurer Mount, Ball Head Adapter, Illuminated Polar Scope, Dovetail L-Bracket, Equatorial Wedge and Counterweight Shaft with 1kg Counterweight.
An optional camera shutter release cable is available separately for many popular camera models/brands.
The Star Adventurer can attach to any standard tripod via its ¼” or 3/8” adapters. The latitude can be set by either adjusting the tilt of your tripod head to match your latitude or more accurately by using the includd Equatorial Wedge. To fit a camera to the Star Adventurer, either a tripod Ball Head is required (not supplied) or the included Dovetail L-Bracket. The Dovetail L-Bracket used in conjunction with the counterweight shaft/counterweight also allows small telescopes (e.g. Skymax-90), with a ¼-20 tripod fitting, to be used with the Star Adventurer. A small telescope and camera (using a ball head, not supplied) can be mounted simultaneously on the Dovetail L-bracket. Using just the dovetail bar from the Dovetail L-Bracket, two cameras can be mounted at the same time using two tripod ball heads (not supplied).
Please Note: Our Star Adventurers have new green/white livery as shown above, not the older red colour shown below in our 360-degree image.

This mount is a great addition to my astrophotography gear. I just used the mount for the first time up at Keilder forest. The mount polar scope helps with getting a basic initial alignment, and is as good as any polar scope that I've used before. Once a proper polar align was done using my AsiAIR, the tracking was excellent. Unguided I was easily able to take 1 min shots of M31, without any star trailing. Over the 120 exposures that I took, there was some drift, but not a huge amount. I'm sure that if I'd turned setup the auto guiding, that would have allowed even longer exposures. The Star adventurer, was easy to balance with my WO SpaceCat 51, ZWO 290MM and MiniGuide Scope, red dot finder and Canon 70D with battery grip. Powering the mount from a USB Powerpack, saw no issues at all, and I'm very pleased with the outcome. The Star Adventurer wedge was easy to align and once locked down held it's position well. The telescope felt stable and I was confident that there was no issues with weight limits. I think this setup could easily hold something much larger, however I have no desire to try that out.Top marks for this piece of kit, feel very sturdy and does everything I need right out of the box.
Bought this on 27 september, shipped the same day, should arrived on 8 october but arrived earlier (4 october), very well packed and intact.
Very heavy duty thing this, Full metal made wihtout some screw heads and caps. Oerration is very easy.
What an amazing piece of kit! Super easy to use, really quick to set up and start imaging with, light, portable, what's not to like!?Managing to get 3minute unguided subs with a 300mm full frame lens on a crop sensor DSLR (Canon 700D), at this exposure and focal length just over half of my subs are usable, knock my exposure time down to 2 mins and i'm up to 85-90% usable subs. Batteries last forever too, done about 8-10 nights of imaging and the first batteries I put in are still going strong.Just recieved my Evostar 72ED and field flattener as an upgrade to my 300mm lens from the 70's (SMC Takumar) which attatches to and balances on the Skywatcher without issue. Havn't had time to test this yet, but with many people already reporting good results with this combo i'm really looking forward to it, and will also be pairing it up with an ASIair and mini guide scope/camera in the coming weeks. All together the 72ED, DSLR, field flattener and mini finder scope only comes to 3.5KG, which is easily balanced by using the 1KG counterweight provided.
Lightweight, portable, the batteries last a long time. Excellent tracking up to 400 mm focal length. The weight capacity declared in my opinion is greater. Obviously it requires a good stable tripod and good polar align. Also great for making timelapse.FirstLightOptics has the best price!!!
I've had my Star Adventurer Pro pack for a few weeks now. Very easy to set-up whether fully balanced with the counterweight and a small telescope or camera/lens combination. Or, with a ball head and camera for wide field use. The polar scope is very easy to use and the alignment position of Polaris can be gained from phone apps or via the internet. I spent a little time making sure the reticule was properly aligned in daylight when I received the mount and that's helped me get trail free exposures with lenses up to 600mm. I like using the built-in 'Snap' feature with my Nikon cameras, I use an intervalometer as well for longer exposures but the 100 seconds given by the mount when in sidereal mode is superb. I've given it 5 stars and my only gripe might be the plastic polar illuminator. It works but could be better especially with its small interlocking parts.Other features are the fast forward/backwards in RA alignment and the manually geared Dec axis - again to aid image composition. It has an auto tracking feature too but I'm yet to try this.Fits nicely inside an old padded camera bag making it suited to grab-and-go moments. I use mine on a Manfrotto photo tripod and can be imaging in a few minutes either on the patio or at a dark site - magic.
Placed the order late on a Wednesday evening, and the shipment was sent the day after. The questions I had regarding delivery address was answered from FLO early on Thursday and they made the necessary corrections to the delivery address. So all in all very satisfied with customer support and will not hesitate to place further orders at FLO for delivery to Norway.
Came well boxed, but the Operating manual is pretty well useless as I cannot understand the method of doing a polar alignment and the drawings of the items are not at all clear. I have however managed to get it working ( but not Polar Aligned) on the table. I have also purchased a 'Ball Joint' to hold the Cannon DLSR camera at any angle. Now waiting for some assistance with the alignment difficulty and of course a starry night sky!Regards from ''Old Codger''
I got this as I wanted a battery operated tracking mount I could travel with. Accuracy wise, it tracked fine for 4 minutes (maximum I tried, so could possibly have gone longer) using 50mm prime on my DSLR (without tracking I'd only go for 10-12 seconds using same setup). The wedge worked fine. The polar scope was pretty much aligned out of the box (so didn't need aligning), I did do a realignment which can be a little fiddly. Only slight niggle I have is the on/off for the attachable polar scope illuminator is vary basic (disconnect the battery), but that is minor. My portable tripod has a maximum load of 8Kg, and had no problems with stability with this and the DSLR on it. Overall really happy with this product.
