Skywatcher 130p
14 February 2024  |

After contacting customer team and finding out why the 130p wasn't supported I figured seeing as my dials could be unscrewed on my focuser that this should fit. So order and after a bit of playing trying different ways I managed to get it on and working. Can't wait to test it out in the field.

Sky Watcher Auto focuser
22 November 2023  |

I purchased this to fit to my Sky Watcher 150PL reflector. Even though the spec for the kit does not state it fits this scope I carried research on the various astronomy forums which showed other people have fitted it to their 150Pl scopes. I was able to fit it quite easily. The adjustment wheel on the Crayford focuser was glued on but unscrewed with a little force. Was able to fit the focuser in about 10 minutes. The case containing the electronics and the battery compartment is a little cheap but does the job. The cord that came with the scope is a little short for me so I purchased a longer cable so I can focus whilst sitting at my laptop. The kit itself works really well being able to adjust the focus speed to bring my planetary camera into focus is useful. On my first use I was able to obtain nicely focused videos of Jupiter and Saturn. So it dropped a star for the plastic casing otherwise great piece of kit.

Just what I needed!

I bought this to fit on my Skywatcher Startravel 120mm scope as the focuser is not ideal at high magnification. The Skywatcher Startravel 120mm has glued on focuser knobs and you need to use the black adapter to fit to the scope. All of the bits needed are in the box. It is now so simple to focus at all magnifications. Great service from FLO.

Works as expected and more
26 February 2023  |

I purchase this focus motor to connect to the standard Rack & Pinions 1.25" focuser that came with a Skywatcher 150PL and to get some sort of finer focusing speed. The wheels on this focuser are not held with screws to to shaft, which means it is not considered compatible with this motor. But the wheels are just screwed and glued directly on the shaft and can be unscrewed with a bit of conviction. Second issue was that the shaft itself is 8mm in diameter and this motor has a connector intended for 6mm shafts. Luckilly it comes with an alternative connector that fits, no need to order a third party connector! The mounting plate fits as well, so no complain here. The focuser being a bit hard to move, the very smallest speed doesn't do anything but turning the speed setting knob just a little bit solves this issue. The highest speed works well, although it is not super quick so it take a few seconds to travel all the way, longer than done manually. And you have to wait since there's no way to disengage the motor (unscrewing the conmector would be required, but that takes even longer). I also have my doubts about how long the small metal pins the cable connect to will survive, as I will disconnect after each session. These don't look particularly solid, but only time will tell. All in all, this motor does it's job at a basic level, I am happy it was possible to connect it to a focuser it was not directly made for, but there are a few shortcomings that cost it one star.

Auto Focus on a Evostar 120
18 February 2023  |

I purchased the Sky-Watcher Auto Focuser to fit to the stock focuser on an Evostar 120 (pre green livery version) following a tragic end to my Moonlite focuser. The motor, bracket and coupler fit perfectly on the focuser bar once one of the large focus wheels is removed (took a bit of brute force as the removable focus wheel, while screwed on, was also glued). Although it’s a DC motor, the focus tube moves in and out nicely and speed is controlled by a potentiometer. Very good addition if not looking to spend a fortune. Great service as usual from FLO.

Fits nicely with the SkyWatcher 90mm f10 refractor
27 October 2022  |

A SkyWatcher 90mm f10 refractor fell into my hands (on the used market) and it turned out to be not a bad telescope, with the exception of the focuser. I've been used to focusers with a 10x reduction and this kind of telescope doesn't have that. Also, with such a long focal length, any movement during focusing is quite annoying. Attaching this electronic focuser makes the telescope much easier to handle, even without adding any computer interface. This product is not very expensive but really improves the telescope performance a lot. The rack and pinion focuser itself is quite ok, and this electronic focuser allows for some quite good control.

It's a quite simple device, which I think is a strength. The instructions are clear enough and it fit perfectly on the SkyWatcher telescope.

I actually decided to not use a 9V battery but instead connected a 9V AC/DC converter (a left over power supply from an old computer modem). This works fine; the 9V batteries aren't so cheap and when I used an old battery, the focuser didn't work so well, I assume because it couldn't give enough current. My guess is that with the 9V power supply, the movement will be more consistent.

I have a ZWO EAF on a more expensive telescope (which has a Starlight Instruments Feather Touch focuser). The ZWO EAF is a lovely device but was a bit over the top for the SkyWatcher 90mm telescope.

Skywatcher auto focuser
13 July 2022  |

I bought this to fit on one of my scopes to ascertain whether it worked good enough to merit fitting on my other two scopes. The fitting is straightforward enough, with any little hurdles met, easily fettled. Decent range of speed available, which is selected by turning a little potentiometer on the control pad. Safe to say I’ll be making provision to buy another two.

Bought 2, nice upgrade for 300PDS and Quattro 10S
31 March 2022  |

I appreciate that these days the move is to EAFs with stepper motors but I have had no problems with this focus motor, since I already have the HitecAstro DC focus controller for me it's just a question of having a motor on the focus bar. The supplied kit is near perfect on the 300PDS but on the Quattro the base plate does not fit all 4 holes on the focuser and obscures one of the tensioning screws, not that they need adjusting also the supplied M4 screws are way too short for the chunky focuser body on the Quattro you need to find some about 25mm long to fit the plate to mount the motor. It works brilliantly on the 300PDS for imaging, I can focus via the PC and make fine adjustments to nail focus. On the Quattro I haven't tried it FLO's special offer of "Buy Astro stuff and get 2 days of cloud free" continues.

It works.
14 December 2021  |

I've had this just long enough to make a custom bracket to fit it to my 8" Classic Cassegrain and to use it for one session. It does the job. I can now focus for planet and lunar crater shots without waiting 5 seconds for the telescope to stop wobbling afterwards. I dropped a star because the build quality is, how shall I put it, unimpressive!

Q1. Can you supply a longer cable?

Sky-Watcher don't offer one but some customers are successfully using longer RJ10 telephone receiver cables.
