7 Position 2″ Electronic Filter Wheel for Large Format Cameras

The EFW3 is ideal for use with large format cameras due to its ability to carry up to 7×50.8mm unmounted or 7×2” mounted round filters. This means you can house both LRGB and Ha, OIII and SII filter sets in the same carousel, adding more freedom and convenience to your imaging set up.

For a large format wheel, the EFW3 boasts a slim, lightweight design. It measures 238×213mm dimensions and weighs in at just approx. 850g. This is great news for large format set ups where weight can be a real concern. That said, the wheel is fully compatible with any Atik camera when using the supplied M54 adapter or alternately the optional M42. We’ve simplified the technical side of the design from the EFW2 to further improve reliability and minimise component wear and tear. However, it’s still machined from solid aluminium to produce a durable and quality wheel that will keep turning, night after night.

Atik 16200 users will also be pleased to know that the EFW3 can be attached directly to the camera and, if the front plate is removed, the backfocus of that combination is reduced to just 34.5mm.

On the software side of things, the EFW3 has a full ASCOM driver, so any complaint software can be used to control it. Additionally the EFW3 can be controlled using our Artemis Capture software, for simple and efficient operation.

EFW3 does what it says on the tin

This is bigger brother of EFW2. Worked straight out of box.
Why 4 stars than 5. Few niggles:
1. It is over priced- really £500?
2. I think for this price there should be thumb screws rather than Allan screws. Starlight Xpress do that- why can't Atik?
3. For £500, I expected a decent case and not a cardboard box!

Beautifully engineered

This is the first filter wheel I've had and am so pleased with it. It was easy to install the filters. Easy to install the software and setup.
It registers the first position faultlessly every time, switches filters quickly and accurately. Great piece of kit well done Atik.

Premium quality and operation
27 April 2018  |

Having been the user of two EFW2's for a couple of years, I had no hesitation in buying the EFW3 on release to enable me to use 7 x 2" filters with my Atik 16200 camera, which uses a large APS-H sensor.

The filter wheel is designed with this camera in mind, although it works perfectly with others, and has been used with my SX Trius, and the camera can be either fitted using the rotatable adaptor, or by screwing the camera directly to the rear housing of the wheel casing.

The quality of the finish and machining is typically Atik, with no compromises made in this area. This includes the all aluminium carousel, and the Atik standard spring loaded motor, which makes removing and installing the carousel extremely easy.

Operationally it has been flawless, and comes with the ASCOM drivers and works perfectly with Atik's own Artemis software. Whilst the motor is almost entirely silent, Atik has moved away from optical or Hall effect sensors for location identification, and instead is a mechanical switch which pulses via cut-outs in the carousel. This means the wheel has a metallic clicking when operating which is not unduly loud, but is noticeable. This does not detract from the accuracy of positioning, with each filter sitting absolutely centrally within the opening every time.

Operation is in one direction only, which is not an issue, but with the mechanical switch means plenty of clicks if running a complete cycle.

It comes with all the fixings and cables needed for operation, including a cigar lighter type power cable, but not the supply. It also comes with 2 Allen keys for removing the cover and using the rotating camera adaptor.

Absolutely no negatives that I have found with this, and it has operated flawlessly both via Artemis and ASCOM (SG Pro).
