About this product

Model:  berlebach_castorII_500714
Part Number:  500714

The Berlebach Castor II is a high quality, smooth and stable grab and go Altazimuth mount.

The Castor II features very smooth movement which can be controlled by the two friction clamps.

This mount has a load capacity of up to 8kg and can handle many different OTA configurations including Refractors, Cassegrain and even Newtonian telescopes.

For telescopes close to the load bearing limit we recommend the optional 20mm diameter counterweight shaft. We recommend Ioptron counterweights with an internal diameter of 20mm (CEM25/IEQ30 etc)

Included with the Castor II is a Vixen compatible Saddle Clamp.  An additional Vixen Saddle Clamp can be fitted on the opposite side in place of a counterweight shaft.

Please note to fit an additional Vixen Clamp (in black) requires purchasing of an additional Dovetail Clamp Support (in black).

The Castor II has a 3/8" thread in its base so can be used on most decent Photographic Tripods,  Various Berlebach tripods as well as the Skywatcher 3/8" Tripod.

Nice smooth alt-az mount
22 October 2023  |

I bought this mount along with the StellaLyra carbon fibre tripod for easy set up, light weight visual observing. The mount is very well made, not heavy, holds a Skywatcher 120ST refractor really well and the movements are smooth and there is very little wobble. There are no fine adjustment knobs but that doesn't matter for a medium length refractor, once the object is found with the finderscope, little nudges of the telescope or mount will easily keep it in the field of view. Excellent alt-az mount. Along with the carbon fibre tripod, it will make a really good travel/grab-and-go mount for visual observing.
