“Extends to an impressive height…The tripod remains stable even when extended, due to a bracket that locked the legs into place…We especially liked the way in which the adaptor plate was fitted into the mount, which is held in place by a sprung locking mechanism. Telescopes are expensive, so it’s worth making sure they are securely attached.” BBC Sky At Night Magazine

Had a hard time choosing a tripod as this was my very first... can now say I've been using this with a star adventurer and absolutely chuffed with it. Highly recommended if you're starting up like I was.

Excellent solid tripod and great for someone who is 6 foot 3. Easy to set up and light enough to carry around. Just what I was looking for. So pleased with the advice I got from First Light Optics!

First use, good results

I purchased this for a star adventurer and evo 72ed with DSLR, I needed more stability and height to get old bones off the floor and more resistance to wind. When first setting up the same rig on the new tripod I was worried Id gained nothing in stability, but tightening of the elevator friction sorted that.there is a slight bit of movement from the rubber on the quick release plate, and it would be great if the whole swivelling head was removable so star adventurer could be mounted lower and with less axis in the set up, you may well be able to but when I tried I changed my mind as it would not budge. First use last night, and very happy with the results. Exactly what I wanted, and at a fantastic price too. Top class service from FLO to put a cherry on it !!

Excellent tripod for the money matching if not surpassing more expensive models. Working really well with my Celesrton 15 x 70 binoculars. Delivery within 2 days despite the current Covid crisis

Horizon Heavy Duty Tripod

The order processing and delivery were efficient However, the Centre Column Lock of the tripod was cracked. In view of the apparent generally good quality of the tripod this is surprising and there seems to have been a lapse in quality control. FLO indicated that they would apply for a replacement lock from the manufacturers/suppliers. It is hoped that this will be expedited in a short timeframe.

Excellent mount
Thursday, 26 January 2012  |

I bought this tripod as a replacement mount for a 15x70 binocular.

The tripod is extremely stable.

Very high quality. Easy to set up.

I particularly liked the adjustment settings which include the ability to set friction.

The tripod also extended up a reasonable height so that I can easily view objects at zenith without having to kneel or bend knees.

To get the best you should really buy a decent rigid adapter to mount the binocular on the tripod (I got horrible plastic one supplied with my binocular). FLO do a good adapter...

Good value for money. Wish I'd bought something like this years ago.
