Borg Telescopes at the International Astronomy Show

James and I were fortunate enough to spend two days with Ted Ishikawa on the Borg stand at this year's International Astronomy Show.

First Light Optics recently became one of only two UK retailers to represent Borg in the UK so it was an excellent opportunity to meet the man and his telescopes. Most of the Borg models were on display including the Borg 77ED II that James uses, the new 71FL with Canon Fluorite optic, the new 89ED and the Borg 125SD - currently the largest aperture Borg telescope. The Mini Borg 60ED was also on the table, I am sure I could hear it whispering my name! I am thinking it would make an excellent compact imaging setup when paired an Atik 490EX and Astrotrac mount.

We will post more about Borg telescopes later because, for us, Ted Ishikawa was the highlight of the show. Ted joined Astro Hutech ten years ago to manage Borg quality control, today he is company President and is still passionate about quality. His confident, professional demeanour is assuring. I think it was also the first time we have met a supplier that didn't have anything negative to say about his competition. It is often said Japanese culture is centred on respect, honour and humility. Ted Ishikawa possesses all three. He also appears to have the entire catalogue of Borg product numbers and configurations in his head. Very impressive!
