Knobs for SkyWatcher MN190 Mak-Newt Primary

Part: SWMNpri
Fits: SkyWatcher MN190 Maksutov-Newtonian telescopes.

Primary collimation

  • Knobs: Black plastic, 16 mm (5/8”) diameter
  • Threads: Stainless steel

Primary Lock

  • Knobs: Red plastic, 16 mm (5/8”) diameter
  • Threads: Stainless steel
Notes:
  1. Knobs with shorter screws and spacers replace the factory Phillips collimation screws. Knobs with longer screws replace the factory set-style (grub) locking screws.
  2. Since the factory collimation and locking screws are close together, knobs must be staggered in height. The locking knobs protrude further than the collimation knobs, and they are now red in color.
  3. Protect the locking knobs from damage, and do not support the OTA using the locking knobs as feet.

Fits: SkyWatcher MN190 Maksutov-Newtonian telescopes.

Knobs: Black plastic, 13 mm (1/2”) diameter
Threads: Stainless steel

Notes:
  1. Our secondary knobs are mounted on long screws to clear the deep secondary lip.
  2. The small cover over the secondary collimation screws must be removed and set aside when Bob’s Knobs are installed. This cover is cosmetic only and does not affect operation of the scope.

I recently had to take the plunge and recollimate an MN190 from scratch. I took the opportunity to fit Bobs Knobs to the primary, and am really glad I did as the final star test adjustments were much easier than previously with the OEM screws. Fitting was easy, and following the instructions and fitting one at a time there was no movement in primary alignment. Highly recommended.

I bought these for my SW 190MN and a set for a 150PDS. It doesn't make collimation any more intuitive to me, but it does make it so much easier. With the hex grub screws, I was forever having to move to the front of the scope and fiddle around; sometimes the hex key got a bit stuck so I'd have to wiggle it out, etc. This is so much better. I really don't understand why manufacturers don't fit something like this as standard on the secondary.
