About this product

Model:  bst_sg_12
Part Number:  SP10853

BST StarGuider ED eyepieces offer remarkably high performance-per-£!

Features include two ED glass elements and fully multicoated edge-blackened optics for excellent colour, enhanced contrast, high light transmission and minimal ghosting.

The six-element / four-group design minimises field curvature for a nice flat field, even when used with telescope f-ratios as low as f5.

Modern twist-up eyecups, 16mm eye relief and 21mm diameter eye-lens make them comfortable to use, even when wearing eyeglasses.

The tactile rubber grip and milled indentations make them easy to handle in the dark.

The 1.25“ nosepiece accepts 1.25" astronomy filters and has a machined safety undercut, so the eyepiece is less likely to slip out of the focuser.

Spot On
29 November 2022  |

Received my Eyepiece on Saturday, and got to use it last night. Compared to the stock item that came with the scope, the StarGuider 12mm is amazing, Mars, Jupiter and its Moons were clearly visible. I really like the wide FOV, and being a glasses wearer, it was nice to not having them to take them off every time I looked through the eyepiece. Big shout out to FLO, for a speedy process and dispatch of my eyepiece. I will definitely be buying from here again.

A great eyepiece for use in all telescopes

This is very much the workhorse of the Starguider set and resides in my focusser most of the time. It’s wide field of view and generous eye relief make it easy to use. Excellent value.

BST Starguider Ed 12mm
30 November 2021  |

Well put together eyepiece that gives a decently corrected image on axis and out to about 80% of the field. Comfortable twist up eyecup. This range of eyepieces are a very good stepping stone from the ones supplied with most telescopes

Impressed

Really impressed with the quality feel of these eyepieces. They are a 110% improvement on my previous eyepieces giving a bright, clear and sharp view.

very good upgrade
22 January 2021  |

I wanted to upgrade from the eyepieces which came with my Starwatcher 130 and plumped for the 12mm. The image is excellent and magnification up from the 25mm. The rubber surround is adjustable for eye relief and as I wear glasses I tried it in various positions. Pushed inwards it gives fairly good eye relief. When I tried to attach a smartphone I had difficulties - it wouldn't focus. Then I managed to take off the rubber and hey presto the smartphone fitted perfectly and focused well. I assume the rubber is to protect the glass but even with it off there was no contact with the phone lens and the eyepiece glass.

Upgraded eyepiece for skywatcher skyliner 200p
18 December 2018  |

I am a complete novice, only really starting out.
However my telescope a Skywatcher, Skyliner 200 p came to me secondhand along with an original eyepiece. The standard eyepiece gets you going, but compared to the Starguider BST you notice that firstly the overall quality just seems so much nicer. It's heavier and more solidly constructed. In comparison the original eyepiece seems a lot more cheaply made!
I have only used it for a short period, but found it's easier to work with, and with my limited experience can't really tell you anything technical about it, but I do like it, and is a vast improvement over the stock eyepiece.
I did a fair bit of research, others liked it on other forums, and recommended it. I do the same. It's good value for what it is, and not too expensive. I will buy the others I need in due course of this make!!

BST Starguider 12mm ED
16 April 2017  |

This is my workhorse EP in my 120ED Evostar pro, very good quality but more important extremely sharp views, its hard to think of an alternative that does not cost 2-3 times the price of these, i had the 18mm a while back and found it hard to tell the views apart from a Baader genuine ortho 18mm. If your looking for a decent eyepiece and cost is important give these a try

Q1. But aren't these the same as ........ ?

Probably... BST (BarSTa) Starguider ED eyepieces are available under a number of brands but we source them with their original factory name.

Q2. Are these noticably better than the 10 & 20mm eyepieces supplied with my telescope?

Yes. Definitely :-)
