I purchased this to replace my existing CGEM hand controller. Couple of reasons not least being the ability to use USB to interface and update instead of a hodge-podge of USB converter to RS232 9 pin D type to RJ45 jacks. Clunky.
The handset is very similar and essentially the same in operation but the buttons are profiled, more tactile and are much better to identify and use by touch. Apparently the screen works better at low temperatures but not tested that as yet!
I had limited experience of the prior controller but so far this feels a better design in use. Also uses the newer/easier CFM application from Celestron to upgrade (via USB) the firmware. At around £120 it's not a cheap exercise but if your old handset is knackered then it's an upgrade as well as a replacement and worth investing in.
