Great scope of a reasonable size and weight
27 April 2018  |

I have owned both CPC800 and CPC1100. The CPC800 is half the size of its bigger brother and has all the same great usability features. If you are worried about the weight of these scopes then dont, its easy to pick up (with well designed carrying handles provided) and takes no time to get setup outside. This scope will provide years of great nightime viewing!

Celestron CPC GPS – Wonderful telescope
07 June 2011  |

This was my first real telescope, what I remember about it was its sheer size not to mention the two near cubic meter boxes it arrived in. Don’t be under any illusion that because it’s the baby of the CPC GPS range it is in some way lesser and not in the same league as the world renowned 9.25” optical tube or the planetary imagers dream 11” optical tube because it is in every respect the same thing, only dimensionally slightly smaller.
The base downwards is the same as the 11” CPC so the mechanics are the same as what holds up the leviathan 11” OTA, its well over engineered and will last a life time I have no doupt.
If you live in an apartment or home that has no secure outside building then carrying this scope requires you take great care, its heavy and you will need to take it outside in two stages.
Once reading through the instructions I familiarized myself with the basic alignment, the GPS signal after a few minutes pin pointed it and we proceeded to align it via on pad instructions, it really was that simple.
The scope came with an X-Cell 40mm eyepiece and reasonable good quality diagonal. The views of Saturn blew my friends and family away; neighbours also queued up to peep through its huge 8” mirror, the Moon was blinding. I recommend it’s the last object to view on a moonlit sky. The Moon showed sights I had seen in text books but no binoculars would ever get near.
I wish I’d kept my CPC 800 and invested in eyepieces, imaging became my passion but as time has passed my interest is back to the beginning of the journey I’d set out… will I buy another?… You bet!
