NEW Lynx Astro 4 Port Dew Controller with DSLR Power Supply and 2x 12V Power Outputs

Designed and manufactured in the UK.

Premium four-channel, four-port dew controller enables you to connect and control output to four individual heater strips (not included). Most heater strips from all major manufacturers are supported via regular phono / RCA type sockets.

Total power output up to 10 Amps. (Please ensure your power supply can deliver sufficient power for your requirements, keeping in mind other equipment such as your mount and cameras also require power).

A cigarette-lighter type plug with a 10 Amp fuse and 2m of premium quality, super flexible, cold resistant silicone cable is included.

Requires a DC centre positive power supply.

Control software requires OSX 10.11.6 or Windows 7 upwards.

2 year warranty.

Important: Do not exceed a total power output of 10 Amps.

  • 4x RCA / Phono individually controllable Dew Heater outputs.
  • 4x Heating Channel Control Knob (0-100%).
  • 2x 2.1mm 12V DC Power Output (suitable for powering a mount, camera, etc).
  • 3.5mm 8V DSLR Power Supply Output.
  • 2m 12 Amp rated silicone cable remains soft and flexible, even at sub-zero temperatures, so is less likely to twist and tangle.
  • Micro USB 2.0 Socket.
  • Fitted with a Cigarette plug rated to 10 Amps and fitted with a 10 Amps fuse. Features a red LED power indicator.
  • Reverse Polarity Protection.

Lynx Astro Dew Controllers can be controlled remotely via computer software.

The device acts as a USB-to-Serial interface and can be controlled either through a terminal or the provided Windows or Mac Desktop software shown below.

DSLR Power

To power your DSLR you will need a 'dummy battery'. We offer a wide range of Lanparte batteries found above, to use one of these with your dew controller you will also need a Lynx Astro Dummy Battery Cable - LanParte Fit cable which is supplied free if you order a dew controller and dummy battery at the same time.

If you are using an official Canon dummy battery then you can use this cable: Lynx Astro Dummy Battery Cable - Canon Fit to connect your battery to the dew controller.

Important: The power supply must have the correct centre positive polarity and be capable of supplying the required Current (Amps) and Voltage. If you are unsure, please contact us for advice.

When determining your requirements, it is a good idea to make a note of the Amps required for each item plugged into the dew controller. This total must not exceed 10 Amps. If this information is unavailable please contact your device manufacturer.

Top product, I have used it several times now over the winter, everything worked great, 4 heat bands and a Sony camera hooked up. faultless and dewless at low T settings

Great piece of kit and came very fast indeed

Does the job. Just tidier.

I don't know about you, but I had cables running everywhere - and limited 12v power points. That all changed when I welcomed this 4 port controller and DSLR supply into my life. It's well built, feels solid and does what it says on the tin. It is stuck to the side of my EQ6-R Pro mount with the Velcro patch supplied and covers all my power needs for that rig.

Now I have only one 12v supply (1 x Nevada PS-08) to plug this controller into. From that, I am powering my mount, 2x dew heater bands (main scope and guide scope), my ZWO ASI294MC-Pro AND my DSLR (with LanParte dummy battery) on a nearby mount (that mount is powered from the mains). Looks tidier, reduces my worries about cables snagging or knotting during the session and has just made me life that little bit easier!

Would I recommend it? Hell yes.

Excellent well thought out design and implementation.

Just taken delivery of one of these. Spend a couple of hours playing about with it, to check it out thoroughly and I'm very impressed with the design and build. The USB Interface makes it possible to control the heater elements remotely. This open up ideas for future upgrades, but for now having the knobs on is great for my needs. They'd also serve as a default setting for each heater when the device is powered up.
The dSLR power port is fantastic. Means that I can remove the heavy battery grip from my Canon 70D (had two batteries to allow for less worry about a flat battery) and power everything from one big battery. The two 12v outputs are perfect, one can power a ZWO Cooled camera, the other I'll use to power an ASIAir. And I have a dew strap on both my main and guide scopes.

I don't understand why there's a reason to change the frequency for the dew heater pwm on one channel only. As it's going at ~700hz in the lowest speed, I fail to see the need to switch this up at all. Still, nice to have an option do to it if there's ever a reason.

The cable is very very flexible, it's more flexible than any other cable that I own. Again better to be over engineered than under.

Having got this, I'm now starting to think about getting a second one for my other mount, and replacing my home made dew heaters. I'm not 100% sure that I will, but it's a nice thought.

Overall, I think this may be a expensive piece of kit however, don't make that let you think it's not value for money. I have every expectation of using this for at least a decade or longer.

Fantastic bit of kit
01 December 2019  |

I use this to control 3 heater straps, my DSLR and mount. The software controlled heater outputs are a doddle to use and if you remote into your PC you can change the power output remotely. I found that when RDPing into the imaging PC the software wouldn't start as it is looking for OpenGL 2.0 - however it will start if you are operating the imaging PC directly or use other remote control software such as Teamviewer.
You don't have to use the software as each output is controlled by a rotary control.

There are 2 x 12 volt DC outputs that enable you to power peripherals and an 8volt DSLR power socket. I use the latter socket to power a Canon EOS DSLR.

It comes with some heavy duty self adhesive velcro strip so it can be positioned anywhere convenient on your mount or telescope rails.

All in all a fantastic piece of kit for our moist climate in the UK. Well recommended.

Dew Controller with added benefits
28 March 2019  |

I've had this since it was first released but due to the weather I've not really used it in anger until tonight. It is well made and easy to use, the software interface is very simple and uncluttered. I also bought the dummy battery to run my DSLR so don't have to worry about the battery giving up. I was considering spending more on an all in one solution but with this and a USB hub on my mount I've tidied up the wiring and continue to use my old laptop remotely from inside.
