About this product

Model:  dobsky150
Part Number:  10716

Sky-Watcher Dobsonian telescopes provide excellent all round performance for the observation the Moon, Planets, Deep Sky Objects and Nebulae.

The Dobsonian mount, popularised by John Dobson in the 1970s, is a simple and efficient method of mounting a Newtonian reflector.

Based on the Alt-Azimuth principal Dobsonian telescopes are fast and easy to set up. It is a box-type mounting which allows the telescope to pivot in altitude, while the box itself is rotated on a base in azimuth. The secret of the design is to correctly balance the optical tube and use materials that enable it to moved easily when nudged but stay in position when not.

The mount is designed to be driven by hand as opposed to slow motion controls.

A great starter scope

I wanted a decent quality scope and this was suggested by "go stargazing" group on Facebook and I'm so happy with it. Such a good price for beginners to afford

Fantastic first serious scope
Friday, 14 February 2020  |

I bought this scope as my first serious scope to replace an under-100 refractor on a terrible mount. As soon as i got this assembled out the box and used it i was blown away. Found Orion Nebula without even trying - didn't even know it existed - and was a fantastic view. Great views of the moon too.

The action of the mount is great, it stays put where you tell it to, unlike my old one!

I can just about move the tube and mount together but it's very cumbersome. Take them separately and it's no trouble for me at least.

I'm new to astronomy and haven't had the clear skies to observe much else yet, so i can't give more of a review, but i would definitely recommend this. The only thing is the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that i should've gone one bigger and got the 8"!

Great scope
Wednesday, 21 May 2014  |

I have had this scope for several months now, I am very pleased with it. I upgraded the stock eyepieces, I have seen a lot of things through this scope, Orion nebula, M13, M51, M3 etc as well as several planets, very easy to use and not to heavy, I put a Telrad on it and use sky maps, makes life very easy. So glad I started with this scope, its built to last. First class service from FLO, I had it the next day after ordering.

A quality product at a good price
Tuesday, 17 May 2011  |

This dobsonian telescope was easy to assemble - with the OTA and mirror already assembled, all I had to do was to put the plywood base together and fit the OTA to it. It is also quite light and easy to carry, the azimuth movement smooth, which can be ideal for kids who are seriously into astronomy, or for those who would like to observe at a darker location.
The primary mirror is of great quality, and views of Saturn were pretty crisp. I haven't viewed all of the Messier objects through it, I managed to see M13 partially resolved around the outer edges - the Ring Nebula is visible, more so with averted vision. A great scope for a beginner!
