About this product

Model:  ev90az3
Part Number:  10723

If you have a room with a view over the sea or hills from your window or are looking for an affordable telescope for astronomy, this 90mm (3.5") f10 refractor on an alt-az mount is a good choice.

“Great deep-space views…. Using the 25mm eyepiece, the star Altair was sharp across 90 percent of the field of view, with only slight distortion close to the edges. Using the 10mm eyepiece we just split Epsilon Lyrae into four stars and Albireo had lovely gold and blue component stars. All our test nebulae and galaxies were easily viewed. The Dumbbell Nebula showed strong mottling and the the Andromeda Galaxy filled the view at low magnification, with its two companion galaxies also visible."

First telescope
10 September 2023  |

This is my first telescope and so far I love it
I got this for my 50th birthday and done quite a bit of research on astronomy sites and was told to stay away from anything with EQ in the title and to go for and AZ
This telescope was so easy to set up and it’s easy to use
Where I live in London I haven’t been able to look at the moon or planet at night yet but took an amazing daytime picture of the moon just by holding my phones camera up to the eye piece
It’s light enough and easy enough to move around so I will definitely be taking it on holiday to Devon and Cornwall
One last thing to say is that for this telescope FLO we’re the cheapest and the delivery time was so fast I couldn’t believe it I ordered it in the afternoon and received it the next day
Thank you so much FLO I will definitely be getting anything else I need for this amazing hobby from you

Evostar 90 AZ3
24 November 2020  |

This is my first telescope so I wanted something that was not too complicated. It was easy to set up, easy to get to grips with how everything works and easy to move around. The optics are good as far as I can see, but then I have never looked though anything expensive!
The two eyepieces are OK but I replaced them with a range of Vixen eyepieces that are better.
The Evostar is compact enough to put in the van for camping trips on the dark side of Scotland, so it will now be coming with us.
I have since ordered a bunch of upgrades as my wife and I are now addicted. FLO are really excellent to deal with and the shipping time is super fast.
Very happy!

First Telescope
13 May 2018  |

I bought this telescope for my thirty-something daughter as her first telescope and I was very pleased with the whole package. I found it easy to assemble and sturdy enough whilst not being too heavy, and easy enough to use so as to not overwhelm a beginner. All in all a very good starter scope giving adequate views of the major planets and star clusters although an eyepiece upgrade would be of benefit in the future.

An excellent budget refractor for visual use
17 May 2011  |

I would recommend this refractor for a young person just starting out in astronomy. It immediacy of use and ease of movement makes it ideal for that purpose, or if preferred, a good grab and go telescope to take out to darker locations.

The supplied eyepieces are very poor; once you have upgraded to skywatcher plossls for example, you will start to enjoy the potential of this telescope. The moon looks crisp and clear with very little chromatic aberration. Jupiter's cloud belts can be seen. Although this has the reputation of being a decent planetary and lunar telescope, I have seen a few deep-space objects such as the Crab Nebula, which can be seen as a smudge and the wonderful Andromeda Galaxy and her neighbouring galaxies - a real treat to discover.

Exploring the magnification of this item, I tried to view the Trapezium stars in the Orion Nebula and was just able to see them at 180 times magnification.

The mount is adequate - solid enough to not worry about unwanted movement - however it can get a little stiff in very cold temperatures - I'm talking minus 10 degrees celcius and colder!

I have rated this telescope four stars due to the poor eyepieces and the occasional stiffness in the mount, which I have already blamed on exceptionally cold weather!

This is no bargain basement telescope - anyone who is getting into astronomy should be guided to these type of scopes, and should NOT buy the "entry level" types seen sold in Argos or Tescos! The owner can expect to enjoy some serious astronomy. Getting decent astronomical gear to sustain an interest in the night sky is vital.
