About this product

Model:  rigel_quikfinder

Easy to use reflex-type finder that is similar to the Telrad Reflex Finder but taller and a fraction of the size and weight.

  • A fraction of the size and weight of the competition's 'reflex' sight.
  • Compact design lets you use both eyes.
  • Aiming your telescope is easy with its wide-open right-side-up view.
  • Projects 1/2 and 2 degree red circles onto the night sky - what you see in the red circles is what you get in your telescope.
  • Pulsed or continuous illumination of the reticle is a standard feature on the QuikFinder.
  • Includes two baseplates, one for apertures around 5", the other for larger apertures. Easy clip on/off mounting to baseplate (no screws to fumble with).

Uses an ultra-efficient LED and runs off a CR2032 lithium battery (not supplied) for long life.

QuikFinder attaches without drilling and is easily removed from its baseplate for storage. Additional baseplates are available for using QuikFinder on more than one telescope.

Baseplate is 2.5 inches long, 2 inches wide and 1/2 inch high.

QuikFinder is 4.5 inches tall, 1.4 inches square and weighs only 80g.

Rigel QuikFinder v Telrad review

Requires CR2032 Lithium battery (not supplied).

An optional AA battery-holder for up to 2700 hours of operation from 2x AA alkaline batteries is available.

Testing your Rigel Quikfinder

Your Rigel QuikFinder is designed for use at night so the red LED reticule display is hard to see in daylight.

To test your Rigel Quikfinder, insert a fresh CR2032 battery then turn the left knob fully clockwise and the right knob fully anti-clockwise. You will now be able to see the reticule while in a dark room or under some blankets (it must be dark).

When testing please also ensure you are observing from the side labelled 'View' (the reticule is not visible from the other side).

Absolute game changer

This was bought to replace the red dot finder supplied with my new telescope. I couldn't get on with the original one, but this is brilliant. It is so simple to use and has made finding objects so simple. You just attach it to the scope with the supplied double sided tape, so no drilling is needed.

Does the job, but has deficiencies.
16 May 2023  |

Needing a rdf which stood well away from the tube of a reflector, the Rigel seemed as if it would do the job; it does, but having used it, I find several problems. The adjustment knobs actually face away from the viewing side, so it's necessary to grope around the front to set it up. I can't see any logic in such an odd arrangement. Attaching it to the telescope by adhesive pads is crude, and doesn't give as much security and rigidity as might be wished; there's no reason why the standard dovetail couldn't be used. The viewing angle is rather narrow. With the eye just a little off the centre line, the outer ring is partly cut off by the lens mount, and locating the correct eye position when the finder is turned on can be awkward. There is no cover for the battery compartment; the mount serves for this, and if the finder is taken off the telescope, the battery is exposed, and could be lost. The clip which secures the finder to the mount is just moulded as part of the housing, and not convenient to use, in my experience; should it snap off, as these things are prone to do, the finder would be useless. The reflector is plastic rather than glass, so it will be more susceptible to scratching if it has to be cleaned. The overall standard of manufacture isn't impressive for something retailing at £49, being entirely plastic, and not very accurately moulded or assembled in places. Iv'e also noticed some degree of parallax in the position of the projected circles when the eye is moved. It's not enough to seriously compromise its function, but it doesn't compare well with other, cheaper, rdfs which I've used. Good points are the dual rings, which give a facility for star hopping if you use this, and there seems to be plenty of leeway for adjustment, provided the base is stuck to the telescope with reasonable accuracy to start with. Overall, though, although it works, I feel that it's overpriced.

Perfect for small scope
23 January 2023  |

I bought this to compliment my skymax 90mm as my Telrad was just to long and bulky for it. The Rigel is so much smaller lightweight and perfect for the job, it hardly takes up any room on the scope. I have attached via cable ties as I didn't want to mark the scope with the tape if I sold it on. The display has a good range of brightness and the flashing mode is very helpful when looking at the sky area target so your not blinding the target you want to set your Rigel on, a very useful feature indeed. I thoroughly recommend it.

Love it. Perfect for sticking on a star tracker
11 February 2022  |

I've just realised how much easier things would've been on previous holidays with my grab+go setup, if only I had thought to check that a mini-reflex sight exists! No more looking at the camera screen on the tracker trying to work out which white dot slightly brighter than the noise is the alignment star. It takes time to get used to where to angle your face to see the target, but you get used to it. I have the telrad for my main scope but there is no way that would fit on the portable system. Yeah it's made of cheap moulded plastic but the quality is where it counts; nice positive battery retainer and knobs with decent resistance. And of course a clear target with a range of display modes. Great! Buy one (or more) !

Simple to set up and very easy to use, makes star hopping a breeze, most useful accessory I've bought in some time. As always excellent service from FLO.

Rigel Quickfinder on a Sky Watcher 8" 1200mm dob.
23 September 2021  |

Having tried simple cardboard models of both the Telrad and Rigel finders I found that the smaller footprint of the upright Rigel fitted this scope much better (but I did need to move the finderscope base away from the focuser to make room).
It is high enough off the body of the scope with the supplied mount to allow for comfortable viewing.
It was easy to install (the sticky pads hold very well) and simple to adjust to centre the image.
It is very light so hasn't changed the balance of the scope much.
In action it works really well. It will centre a star in all but the highest magnification eyepieces and the circles really help when star-hopping.
The ability to turn the brightness down makes centering dimmer targets much easier. (I haven't used the blinking option much yet.)

Overall this has been a really worthwhile addition to the scope.
It has made finding visible targets very fast, accurate and easy (and has also encouraged me to develop my star-hopping skills for less visible targets). Don't hesitate, get one!

Lost without it!
22 July 2021  |

Have just purchased another one of these, as my first one has packed up, after many years of good service I might add. Good old FLO. Needed to get a replacement quickly. Could not imagine an evening session without one.
I have bolted the baseplate to a small 2" long dovetail bar, so I can swap between scopes and mount using the finder scope bracket because with one of these you don't need a finder scope.

Excellent piece of kit. Shame about the clouds that came with it lol.
14 July 2021  |

Needed to upgrade the finderscope on my 4.5" newt. The one that came with it wasn't very good quality at all. After some deliberation I've decided to go for a twin set up of this rigel and a 9x50 RACI finder. As pennies are tight will be buying them as and when I can afford. Thought I'd give the rigel a go 1st. Super easy to fit and align and works perfectly. Definitely aids with star hopping with the 0.5 and 2 degree circles. This was my first time buying from FLO but certainly won't be the last as I've already been eyeing up the RACI lol. My only complaint would be that FLO when they packed up the item seemed to have packed a few too many clouds as it has been about 2 weeks since it arrived and tonight is the first night I've had clear skies. Other than that really pleased with my purchase.

Brilliant, makes navigating the stars so much easier
27 May 2021  |

I had a basic straight through 6x30 finder which was frustrating to use on it's own with my long refractor. Getting the correct initial star lined up for star-hopping could be difficult, but the Rigel Quikfinder has solved that problem. You have to be looking through it at the correct angle to see the reticle, but once aligned and you've got the hang of the viewing angle it's so easy to get that initial star found.
