About this product

Model:  telrad-finder

The Telrad finder is the original and best-selling reflex finderscope.

This simple, functional and accurate finder for a telescope is much easier to use than a conventional finder-scope.

It projects a set of circles, 0.5 degrees, 2 degrees, and 4 degrees, that enable you to align your telescope on objects in the sky.

You can also use the circles to star-hop from one object to another. I.e. if a galaxy is 8 degrees away from a star, you count two 4-degree circles.

Two AA batteries will typically last 1-2 years.

It is supplied with a universal base plate that can be attached via screw holes or the included sticky pads.

"We loved the view through the Telrad and everything worked without fuss" BBC Sky at Night Magazine.

The Telrad finder is also popular with those working with stage lighting because, using a Telrad, follow-spot light operators can point with precision.

I must be old fashioned, but I like to star-hop. This finder is the best tool to assist you with this method of finding objects in the night sky (no clouds of course) Just a brilliant finder that I recommend from FLO.

A Marmite Accessory

Definitely a love it or hate it finder. I like it, it's great, despite it looking like a shoe box! Trying to find a visual object in a right angled 9x50 finder with the scope on high mag is a pain. With this you can lock onto the target in seconds. The double sided Scotch tape mounting is not ideal. I've not used it... want to keep the OTA clean and the Telrad resaleable. It's fine with just masking tape if mounted on top of the OTA, the angled Scotchtape pads are a stable platform. No, the battery holder is not ideal and it's long but for me its a brilliant bit of kit. Fast delivery as usual.

Blimey, talk about high expectations and hyperbole!

Maddeningly disappointing. It's talked up everywhere, I can only assume most people have not used anything else? Poor build quality, very weak light to the point you can't use it to line everything up in the day, and the light is essentially too bright for night time... or off, the dimmer doesn't seem all that effective.

It appears to have been built to extract maximum profit. It might have been great once, I accept that.

I have a celestron star pointer pro and a no name £9 reflex off of my over and under shotgun, both are cheaper and better. Also, why is it MASSIVE?

The only positive is the field of view and using normal batteries - you can do better for much cheaper, there are so many decent red dots and reflex sights.

Second purchase from FLO now and very happy both times. Fast delivery and product arrived in perfect condition.

Telrad is a great product, easy to fit to my scope and easy to set up, adjust and use.

Disappointed
11 June 2023  |

The 3 concentric circles in the viewfinder are great. Being asked to glue the finder on my expensive telescope was not great. You can buy a different shoe which allows you to attach the finder to the scope with screws but that costs an extra £10. I have no idea why they think sticky pads is an acceptable attachment method.

Can't be without one for a Dob

I will write this review even before this Telrad has arrived. Why? Because I have a few of them already. I'm only buying this one to replace one with a broken brightness knob, lost clamp screws and a corroded battery holder! They are a fantastic device for finding objects in the eyepiece from a star atlas - or even software - most will put Telrad circles onto the screen as an overlay to assist finding faint fuzzies. I've used them to hunt down all sorts of DSO's in my 18" Dob, I had one on my 12" Dob, and this one (when it arrives) will go on my latest little 10" f4.7 grab and go Dob. They've been around Donkey's years, but they still continue to be unbeaten.

Superfast del,
Not had chance to use it due to bad weather however, easy to install, very sturdy mount, I wear glasses and I don't need to remove them to use it as I do with a regular finder scope, very good item and very useful
