About this product

Model:  startravel-80-10734
Part Number:  10734

Specification and optics are the same as the Startravel-80 (ST80) but supplied without equatorial mount/tripod and includes a 45º Erect Image Diagonal.

Popular as a travel-scope, for grab-and-go astronomy and for use as a guidescope.

Optically this telescope is better than its price suggests!

“The lowest power eyepiece (25mm) provided a x16 magnification, which gave an estimated field of view of 2.5 degrees.  Stars remained sharp across 75% of the view.  With this eyepiece, widefield views were particularly good; open cluster M44 was a delight.  These wide views did seem to make the background sky lighter, but we could still make out the brighter Messier objects and even spotted the galaxy NGC 2903 in Leo.  At higher magnifications the galaxy group of M65/M66 and NGC 3628 could be seen, and by adding the Barlow lens to the 10mm eyepiece we split Algieba and Castor…  Saturn was also clear, with Titan and Rhea visible. Overall score 87%”

Value for money
28 September 2023  |

Ordered on a Sunday, arrived on Tuesday.
Giving this telescope 4 stars for what it is, great value for money. This little skywatcher is light, very portable and produces a decently sharp image. The contrast is ok and as it can produce an upright image, it’s good for terrestrial as well as night viewing. I’ve used various different scopes before and this one was bought as a stop gap between main scopes. This is good quality at a good price. In fact I’ll probably keep this after buying my next telescope. It will be great for quick viewing and travelling. it would be perfect for a beginner or a casual observer whether land or sky. This telescope may not be a ‘wow! Amazing! Brilliant’ scope but it’s certainly one that’ll have you saying ‘yes, dead on, great, that’ll do nicely’. . Again, great value at a great price!

Budget travel scope
09 June 2023  |

Ultra light and compact. Popped it on an AZ GTi and manfrotto camera tripod. Fits nicely in a small backpack.

Given the price and size this is great value as a first scope or travel rig. Have used it on clear nights a few times while my 130PDS is aquiring images

It provides good views and have gotten decent images with it and an old dslr. My most used one

Ok good fun

The scope is ok but consider buying something bigger if you want deep sky objects you will definitely need a star tracker preferably computerized. It will focus with my d3300 with just a t-ring. However I have achieved better images with just a camera lens.

Fantastic well loved scope

The ST80 is a brilliant little scope providing great Widefield views. I have mounted it on my AZ5 and are a great pairing. It's a lightweight scope and the optics are fantastic, givung me great viwes of many clusters with my zoom lens and even seeing M31, M81&82, the recent comet c2022 e3 ztf. Only had the chance to use it once so far but can't wait to get it out again. I love the scope and recommend this one and any of the others in the ST series. It's a great scope for a cheap price.

Sky Watcher Telescope
26 January 2023  |

In comparison to another similarly priced telescope that we bought and returned the same day the Sky Watcher is in a league of its own. The presentation the build quality and the optics are for the price top class. I would recommend this product to anyone who has an interest in astronomy.

Great, with one tiny problemette: no assembly instructions.
19 October 2022  |

This is my first telescope. I bought it to observe Andromeda. The box arrives with the tube, various eyepieces, lenses, and an image inverter prism etc. packed in separate bags and I had no idea what I was looking at. As soon as I saw a picture of it fully assembed I was able to put it together in minutes, BUT there was no manual in the box, or even a picture of it assembled. There's no user guide for this telescope on the sky-watcher website either, and they didn't respond to my request for help. I ended up using YouTube reviews, which is OK. For 5 stars give us an assembly guide. I have only used it once so far, and I saw bands of clouds on Jupiter and the moons no problem, using the 2x Barlow supplied (which brings the mangnification up to 64x?). I watched Europa in its orbit disappear behind Jupiter. Google "OTA 80 Jupiter" to manage your expectations! I am using it with a camera tripod at the moment, and intend to get an EQ tripod next month. It comes with an image inverter prism, so you can see things the right way up (this is supposed to be used if you use it as a spotting scope during the day, so it's a handy tool to have alongside binoculars). Pleased with it so far.

A great telescope package for a budget price.
04 November 2020  |

I have only just bought this Sky-Watcher Startravel 80 OTA a couple of weeks ago and only the last couple of nights, having been clear skies, have I had a chance to try it out.
On arrival, it was very easy to assemble and to align the finderscope. Attaching my own current dovetail was easy and straightforward. I found the telescope very easy to use.
I am really pleased with it and after attaching my DSLR with the aid of an extension sleeve, I am more than happy with the quality of the photos I was able to take.
