For binocular newcomers, these are the prefect step up without breaking the bank.

The Helios Stellar II 16x80s are a significant step up from typical ‘starter’ binoculars, so if you’ve been bitten by the binocular astronomy bug and want something that will show you considerably more without stretching your finances as much as premium binoculars will do this would be an excellent choice.

Outstanding

When my kids arrived I lapsed on my Astro hobby and sold my ETX 90. Now with limited space for a telescope I decided on binoculars to start again. After much deliberation I decided on the 20x80 Helios Stellar-II.

WOW! What a wonderful surprise! I could'nt be happier.

They are brilliant! I immediately lucked out with a cold clear sky the night they arrived. Even with horrible light polution in my area I was able to find the old favourites easily.

Star resolve to wonder pin points, colours are vivid.

Andromeda was easy to find and a large smudgy blog, with better seeing conditions I expect that view to improve.

A little later Orion rose into view and did not disappoint. Betelgeuse resolved to familar bright unmistakable deep red and the Pleides filled the FOV and sparkled.

They are not as heavy as expected but are a handful when not mounted to a tripod and hard to keep steady for anything but brief moments, but once setup on my tripod the results are breathtaking.

Spectacular binos on its price range
12 March 2019  |

I recently acquired these binos after having taken a look through other Helios lightquest. I wear glasses with thick dioptrix correction and I can use them with or without glasses. Tested under urban and rural conditions all winter messier open clusters looked pinpoint. Even M3 appeared as a fuzzball. A solid tripod is needed but ir can be used with hands only if objects are not so high.
