“The Opticron Oregon 20x80 binoculars prove that well-designed binoculars don't need low-dispersion ED-glass elements in their objective lenses to deliver an impressive performance. To achieve this at what might be considered a budget price is no mean feat, particularly when the build quality matches the binoculars' optical prowess" Ade Ashford, Astronomy Now October 2019. About this product
Part Number: 30151
The UK's BEST <£150 80mm observation binocular and an excellent gift for someone interested in astronomy.
"These binoculars come into their own on extended deep-sky objects. The Orion Nebula was bright, showing good structure, and we could distinguish all four stars of the Trapezium (Theta (θ) Orionis). The galaxies M81 and M82 were easy to see and the differences between them were obvious." Steve Tonkin writing for BBC Sky @ Night Magazine
Unlike cheaper binoculars that are similar in appearance the Opticron Oregon 20x80 features fully multi-coated optics on all air-glass surfaces for maximum light transmission, clarity and contrast.
An excellent choice for long-range terrestrial observation and astronomy.
17mm eye-relief eyepieces so suitable for observing with or without glasses.
Slim-line ZCF body style protected in natural rubber armour make the Oregons surprisingly easy to hand hold but they can also be attached quickly and easily to a tripod using the integral tripod adapter socket for more stable viewing.
Supplied in soft carry case with 5 year guarantee.

Speedy delivery with excellent protective packaging. Bought principally for for wide angel deep sky astronomy but also very effective for nature rambles giving wonderfully sharp detailed views of targets at extreme range. Quite heavy but not impossibly so with a good carrying case but you will definitely need a decent tripod for extended viewing. At this price I doubt that the quality could be bettered, optically fine with a very small amount of spherical aberration in the outer 25 % of the field of view that is of no consequence and mechanically robust sufficient to become a family heirloom. Reliable review in the October 2019 issue of Astronomy Now.

Lightweight, but robust; large, but easily handheld for short periods of time. Optically surprisingly good considering the price - sharpness is equal in almost whole of view field, and I was so far not able to detect any chromatic aberration. I would recommend it for astronomy as well as for terrestrial observation.
Excellent value for money !!

When compared side-by-side with a number of 20x80s from Celestron, Omegon and other brands, the Oregon performs very well. Very good central sharpness, wide sweet spot, very acceptable off-axis sharpness, bright image, easy eye placement. Image shows a slight reddish / pinkish tint, nothing dramatic, though. For its price, the Oregon is an excellent choice. Highly recommended.
