About this product

Model:  bneodymium-1
Part Number:  2458305A

Features enhanced 'Phantom' coatings with UV/IR cut for even better performance.

Many companies claim the Neodymium filter as their idea – here is the real story: When Baader Planetarium took over responsibility for Zeiss Amateur Astro Products Division in 1996, among many other product ideas (which are gradually entering the market…), one of the most intriguing was a selective bandpass- filter to cut a good part of light pollution and greatly intensify the H-alpha wavelength of the visual spectrum – working as a whole like an RGB-Intensifier. This was achieved with the help of the rare earth element Neodymium. The performance is impressive, especially when observing Jupiter and Mars, while simultaneously darkening the sky background.

The latest production run features multilayer coatings on both sides, making this genuine Neodymium Moon & Skyglow-Filter the brightest in its class.

Intensifies surface details on Mars, Jupiter and Moon – and enhances many Deep Sky galaxies and nebulae against the background sky.

Features:

  • Selective contrast enhancing filter, especially suitable for reflector telescopes and true Apochromats. Also effective on smaller economy telescopes that cannot benefit from expensive narrow-band nebula filters due to the huge light loss involved.
  • High light transmission, while blocking unwanted skyglow and many street light emissions.
  • The unique selective blocking feature of the NEODYMIUM element significantly reduces glare without reducing recognition of important colour and brightness variations.
  • Transmission within the selected wave bands exceeds 95%.
  • Planeoptically polished! Retains full image resolution – even at the highest magnification, way above 200x, or during eyepiece projection work – even in front of a binocular viewer.
  • Ultrahard and durable Ion-beam hardened coatings may be cleaned anytime without fear.
  • No image degradation as with 'flame polished' filters.
  • Non-vignetting filter cells, with a larger aperture than competing designs and a CNC-machined 'crown' for ease of handling and attachment.

If you have never seen the GRS (Great Red Spot) on Jupiter – or surface features on Mars – with this filter, you will!

Excellent light pollution filter for Nikon DSLR
15 February 2022  |

Living on the edge of what has become a Bortle 6 in North Somerset the light pollution is, as you would expect, deteriorating the imaging
Having read and viewed reviews of the various LPFs, one did stand out when used with Nikon DSLRs rather than dedicated OSC cameras
I have only had 1 clear night to test it out - after 4.3 hours imaging with this filter it really did do its job - post processing was definitely made a lot easier.
considering there was also a 60% full moon just off the target area the filter did actually help with the final subs
I highly recommend this 2" filter (particularly with Nikon DSLRs) have not tried it with OSC camera yet
Thanks again to FLO for supplying the goods well inside their predicted timescale - brilliant service as always

impressive upgrade
09 January 2022  |

My first chance tonight to view the moon with my Christmas present Baader Neodymium filter. Managed a few minutes as I was cooking dinner but it was well worth it.
Using my Maksutov 127 with a BST 25mm eyepiece and Celestron X-Cel barlow the definition of the lunar surface was stunning revealing details of the smallest craters that had not been seen before.
The moon was very bright so next time I'll use a variable nd filter as well.

Excellent purchase! This is a great quality product with a wide range of applications. Very glad I purchased it. FLO was (as usual) superbly efficient in getting this item to me from the UK to South Africa (ordered on a Thursday and delivered by DHL on the following Tuesday). FLO are simply the best!

Baader neodymium 2inch filter

Brilliant service from First Light Optics. I've had several dealings with them and they are first class. Knowledgeable staff, prompt responses and very quick delivery. I'd been looking for this filter for a while now so I'm pleased.

High expectations surpassed
21 December 2020  |

First dry run two nights ago I put this filter in the 2" thread of a Baader Hyperion and stuck that in my Vixen r200ss. I was blown away! The details and colours in M42 alone were deeply satisfying. Instantly gave me that warm fuzzy feeling inside when observing becomes an almost magical experience. Well recommended!

Filter for Mars
07 October 2020  |

I bought this filter for observing Mars . It certainly allows some finer detail to be seen and does not change the tone colours. I found it was most effective in my 8 inch Dob, but it also improved the image, though more subtly in my 120 ED frac.

'Swiss Army knife' of filters
30 May 2020  |

I have the 1.25", (purchased many years ago before FLO was established).
For me it is the 'Swiss Army knife' of filters. This is the 'all in one' or 'Marmite' filter.
Either you love it or hate it.

Not much good for Imaging!
11 March 2019  |

I've had one of these for a few years but until recently I didn't use it much until recently and to be honest its about to be removed from my setup very soon. every image i have taken has a really bad colour cast, which seems to be impossible to balance out. I'll be buying another LPF very soon!
