FTDI USB to Serial Cable for Sky-Watcher Handsets

This convenient FTDI USB to Serial adapter allows direct connection of your Sky-Watcher handset to your computer allowing for firmware updates and computer control.

The FTDI 232R chipset works reliably across all versions of Windows and, because each cable has a unique chipset ID, each time you unplug the adapter then plug it back into the same computer, even if on a different physical USB port, the COM port number remains the same.

And, we quality control each and every Lynx Astro cable prior to dispatch.

5m cable length.

Compatible with Windows XP, 7, 8 & 10, Linux, Mac OSX 10.3 and above.

Windows users, the USB to Serial adapter should install automatically but should you require drivers they can be downloaded here.

SynScan v4 handset successfully updated
15 December 2018  |

I ordered this lead to allow me to update my SynScan v4 handset to the latest firmware. At first I was unable to get the SkyWatcher SynScan Firmware Loader to find the handset, but here is what I did to get around the issue.
I opened Windows "Device Manager" BEFORE plugging the lead into the PC, then watched what changed when I plugged it in...
(1) USB Serial Port (COM3), (2) USB Serial Converter both appeared.
My update issue was with the SkyWatcher "SynScan Firmware Loader Ver 3.3" program itself, which has an "Auto-detect COM Port" checkbox - this checkbox does not work!
Once I unchecked the "Auto-detect COM Port" and manually selected "COM3" (I got this number from Device Manager earlier) then the connection to the handset was established...
