This monocular (4x12) is an gem! The optics are great with an cristal view and clarity. I have several monoculars and bino... one of my favorite monocular is the germany made docter 8x21 which is an great value...but this opticron is much better. The field of view is amazing and the quality of the german glass is top. So for the price it's an bargain. Get one if you want an ultra small ... ultra bright ...ultra quality images. There's only one minus. The strap ttaht comes with the monocular is rubish... please opticron use another quality strap in such an wonderfull product!

Great little looker

I wanted this to keep in my pocket for a few scenarios
1) Going for a walk when birdwatching is not the primary activity but I might want to take a closer look at something
2) Daytrips / City mini-breaks. Seeing buildings / artwork etc. up closer
3) Going to music concerts and not wanting to lug binoculars or a big monocular around

It's a great product for these activities. The field of view feels good and the image is quite sharp / bright. The focus can be pretty much set-and-forget for anything >10m. If you're used to 8x or 10x magnification this won't seem like it 'zooms' you in very much but you'll soon realise it allows you to still see much better than unaided and 4x keeps the shakes way down (which is important on such a small device). I haven't tried the 6x but I expect the shakes, less bright image and reduced field of view wouldn't make up for the extra magnification.

I've also found it great for spying on insects from ~30cm away - they are much less easily disturbed than trying to get within a few cm for a magnifying glass / loupe.

If you're wondering how it feels to carry, it's probably most similar in size and weight to a D-cell battery.
