About this product
The Optolong L-Pro (L-Professional) filter is designed to improve the visibility of various deep sky objects.
It selectively reduces the transmission of light pollution wavelengths, specifically those produced by artificial lighting including mercury vapour lamps, both high & low pressure sodium vapour lights and the unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in our atmosphere (i.e. skyglow).
The L-Pro filter is highly transparent in the main nebula emission lines at OIII (496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII(654nm and 658nm), H-alpha(656nm) as well as SII(672nm).
Enhances contrast and detail of emission nebula for both visual and photograghic purposes in areas with heavy light pollution.
Unlike the UHC and CLS, light pollution filters, the L-Pro is multi-bandpass filter which offers better colour balance by maximising the transmission band.
The balanced transmission allows astrophotos to be taken with minimal colour cast on broadband emission objects such as galaxies, reflection nebulae and globular star clusters. The L-Pro is the best choice for light pollution suppression.
Main Use and Performance
Suitable for visual observation and astrophotography.
The L-Pro filter has a very low transmission reduction rate against continuous spectrum space objects, and thus is quite effective in suppressing light pollution sources when shooting galaxies, reflection nebulae and globular star clusters. The same holds true for visual star observations.
The L-Pro filter alone can suppress infrared wavelength, and thus can be used as a luminance filter when shooting LRGB data with CCD/CMOS Astrocams.
IMPORTANT: Filters manufactured by Optolong are NOT designed for observing or photographing the Sun. DO NOT use Optolong filters to observe or photograph the Sun. If you do it will result in permanent eye damage!

EOS-R L-Pro Clip Further Explanation
Due to the particularity of the Canon R series micro-single optical path, aperture design and light incident Angle, a slight dark angle interference will occur when using interference filters for imaging.
There are two solutions to solve this peripheral interference:
1) Cut out the interference areas of pictures (see below)
2) By post processing via RAW

L-Pro Spectrum and Characteristic
When used in the relatively light polluted conditions typically found in the suburbs, the resultant image will not produce obvious colour deviation. The multi-band spectrum is specially designed and optimised as shown in below.
Peak transmittance: T>90%
Blocking range: 380nm-750nm
Blocking depth: light pollution line blocking >90%
Surface quality: 60/40(Refer to MIL-O-13830)
Transmitted Wavefront RMS: λ/4
Parallelism: 30s

The L-Pro is suitable for level 3-7 according to the Bortle dark space classification.
