Optical Bench Test
All SharpStar telescopes are tested in the UK on an optical bench.
This ensures you can be confident your telescope will, from the outset, have well figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!
SharpStar 100QII f/5.8 Quadruplet APO Astrograph Telescope
The Sharpstar 100Q-II is Sharpstars second generation 100mm apochromatic Petzval quadruplet with a focal ratio of f/5.8 and a corrected field of 44mm in diameter. It also benefits from an optional F4.3 Focal Reducer which is also full format compatible.
The lenses are assembled in two groups: an air-spaced triplet on the front and a singlet towards the focus end of the telescope. The objective lens includes one Extra Low Dispersion FPL53 glass element for superb chromatic correction.
The SharpStar 100Q-II is an excellent deep sky imaging tool that features a Petzval design that does not require the user to set the camera sensor to a specific back focus distance. That leaves the freedom to use a filter wheel, off-axis guider or accessory without needing to calculate the correct focal distance from the flattener. The fully corrected 44mm circle ensures the 100Q-II is suitable for todays crop of full format imaging cameras and DSLR's.
With a focal ratio of f/5.8 or F4.3 (with the dedicated focal reducer) this is the perfect astrograph for the advanced astrophotographer. The large rack and pinion 3.2" focuser has a massive 5.5kg payload capacity, and can handle heavy full format cameras and filter wheels, it can also be rotated 360° to perfectly frame the subject. The newly improved load-bearing adjustment screw on the body of the focuser permits adjustment of the focuser to allow for the weight of the camera and imaging accessories.
The focuser includes a 10:1 dual speed unit for precise focusing.
All the lenses are fully multi-coated and the tube is internally flocked to reduce reflections and absorb stray light. The tube is made of aluminium, the pinion focusing mechanism of brass and the mechanical components are engineered to provide the best rigidity, performance and durability.
