The highly portable Sky-Watcher STARTRAVEL-102 (AZ-GTe), has been designed to be controlled wirelessly with your Smartphone or Tablet, using the free SynScan App for iOS or Android. The AZ-GTe mounting, with it's built-in WiFi module, creates it’s very own Wi-Fi network, so the mount can be used anywhere, without any reliance on other WiFi or mobile networks. After entering your coordinates into the App and following a simple alignment procedure, you are ready to explore the universe using the App’s intuitive touchscreen menu.
The AZ-GTe and SynScan App provides full computerised GO-TO control, allowing the telescope to be automatically slewed to any one of the objects in the App’s extensive database of 10,000+ celestial objects.
The STARTRAVEL-102 is a two-element, air-spaced achromatic refractor and a well proven performer for ‘Rich-Field’ views of comets, star fields, star clusters, nebulae, bright galaxies & planets, the Moon and the Sun (with proper safety filtering!).
Includes adjustable aluminium tripod with extension pillar and accessory tray, the mount can also be removed and fitted to other suitable photo-tripods with standard 3/8" screw fitting.
(Please note: The AZ-GTe mount is essentially same as the AZ-GTi, except Freedom-Find™ dual-axis encoders are not present)
A great little scope to get started with. I saw some good views of M13 and, even though it isn't really meant for astrophotography, I managed to get some nice shots of the Dumbbell Nebula (M27).
I wanted a portable scope that I could easily move around. I have a 12" reflector but often find I want to observe something that is low down, behind a tree or a house, that it just cannot reach. This Skywatcher is big enough to give decent views, is quite easily portable, and quick to set up and control. The smartphone app seems to work well too. On the whole, very happy!
I already have a GTi mount and needed one more eventhough this is not the same (don't have dual encoders) this is a great combo the telescope is very fine
