The Sky-Watcher AZ5 is an easy to use, grab-and-go telescope mount for visual astronomy and daytime terrestrial observations.
Constructed from cast aluminium and designed to attach small telescopes up to 5kg in weight, via a regular 45mm dovetail bar.
The aluminium telescopic tripod legs can be extended and clamped in any position via integral leg locks.
Supplied with two flexible slow-motion cables, one for vertical and one for horizontal, for smooth precise control. Can also be moved manually around each axis for rapid panning and elevation adjustments - track distant moving targets with ease.

I asked for advice before buying this lovely little mount on whether I could mount my SW Explorer 200p on it , the advice was mixed to say the least , but I decided to buy it . I had already purchased an EQ5 adapter to enable use of the EQ5 tripod with the mount .
So , after placing my order with FLO the mount arrived 23 hours later !!!! Brilliant ! I was able to use the mount with my 200p the next night . The manual said that the mount can indeed take 9kgs if you use a sturdy tripod . And that seemed to be the case . Everything was firm and steady , just the occasional vibration which settled down very quickly . All in all a really lovely smooth mount which negates the need for an elongated set up time .
I must also add that , once again FLO delivered .. in advice and speed and a genuine enthusiasm to help . Although I work very close to a rival company in Cambridgeshire I actually prefer to buy my gear through FLO . Thank you

Bought this for a skywatcher 3/8 stainless steel tripod. Have tried it with a st120. 5.6kg and handled the weight well. The short knobs are just fine for me but it has longer flexible knobs in the package for longer otas. The gears have a clutch system that can be adjusted for slip for fast motion to targets and then lock up and use slow motion controls. I mostly keep the azimuth unlocked and use the altitude knob only to track targets. There is 2 positions that the arm can be adjusted. I keep it in the more vertical position to keep weight nearer centre of tripod. FLO parcel was well packaged and they delivered quickly to Northern Ireland using DHL👍

Great Mount, here are some Cons and Pros but this is a super piece of gear I bought for my nephew. I did a full review on the Actual Astronomy Podcast Episode #68 that drops on Nov. 24th.
Weird Spider web of polystyrene….hopefully it’s not in the gears….
Clutch - seems either engaged or not, I prefer the Tak lapides that allows precise setting depending on what you re doing,,,,but the AZ5 may work better for beginners in this regard since you just turn the clutch a little and know it’s not moving….with the clutch not engaged if you take a really heavy eyepiece out it can nosedive or move too much.
Sourcing / lack of availability - So you’d have to do a custom order here in Can/Us or order from UK or EU like I did. Y
Rock Solid! No shakes super solid, was easy to track at 85x. So this mount meets that requirement of making sure a beginner won’t suffer from shaking.
Pointing Ease: Super Smooth, works perfectly with the 80mm f5. Totally intuitive, see something point it and it’s close enough.
Pro- Can use on any photographic tripod!
Look / Feel: wow the tripod / mount / scope looks amazing, it looks like a kit all color co-ordinated ….
AZ5 mount for Heritage 150p

This mount is VERY stable on the steel SW tripod (which is a tad larger and heavier than I anticipated!). It's solid and for the most part very smooth to use, particularly in the alt slo mo. However neither clutch allows me to lock the mount, and the clutch has to be very tight for azimuth slo mo to engage anticlockwise. I'm sure I'll get used to it, and it's lovely to use when set up.

Bought this AZ5. Without the tripod as I had a very sturdy manfrotto tripod that fitted.... It is an excellent mount for the price.. Well made solid.. Stylish.. Mount on its own takes 9kg..!!!!!.....no problem with the Explorer 130PDS I purchased with it..
Great combo..... 👍

My Vixen Porta 11 mount, got knocked off a table and despite the best efforts of another member of Norwich Astro, is now wobbly, so purchased the AZ5 head as a direct replacement.
Build quality is excellent, easily comparable to the Vixen (that despite it's high price was made in China too). Not as lightweight as a my Vamos traveller, but is about a 3rd of the price and has slo mo wheels and longer controls on a stalk, which will make it easier to track at higher powers. This will be my choice of mount for general observing with the Tak.
It has a 3/8" thread, so perfect for the more robust photo tripods; I'll be using it on a Manfrotto, although you can purchase this with a dedicated astro tripod too. There are bolts that allow you to adjust the angle of the mount, to accommodate longer length scopes. For my Tak 76, it worked as delivered.
skywatcher az5 alt-azimuth mount head

Purchased the mount head on it`s own to place on my eq5 tripod using an adapter plate to use as a grab and go setup. Was wondering if it would handle the weight of my startravel 120, 2 inch diagonal and eyepiece as just over the quoted 5 kilo payload capacity of mount. No problem. Actual payload capacity quoted for using on a heavy duty tripod in the mount head manual is 9 kilo and 5 kilo on the lightweight tripod. in fact in use it is very stable. Scope balances easily and no jitters when using. Very capable of handling a bit more I would say. Very pleased, good quality and well made would score 10 out of 10.
Very nice grab and go mount

I have only managed a couple of sessions with the mount so far, but have been very pleased with its performance. I used it with my Lunt 50 for a solar session and found the mount easy to set up. The movement in both axis was very smooth with the clutches released and had a very pleasant feel to it. Just enough resistance to make it very pleasant to use. With the clutches locked the slow motion controls were buttery smooth with absolutely no back lash.
Later that night I used the mount with my SW 102 ST and again was very satisfied with all aspects of the mounts performance. Perhaps my only concern was that the supplied tripod was a little shakey at higher magnifications, though any shake did die down very quickly. If have not tried it with the pillar extension fitted yet, but it seems to be a very solid piece of kit.
Once again thanks to all at FLO for their usual great service.

1. Mine has a small backlash (a gap in motion when reversing direction of moving the handle) in the azimuth axis, that could not be corrected using the tension screw (no such backlash in the altitude axis)
2. The direction of the azimuth handle is fixed (90 degrees to the telescope) so when i put on my long 120/1000 refractor, it is not possible to reach the handle while looking through the scope (it can't be used for long scopes).
3. The advantage is that it can be fixed on a normal photographic tripod of enough height, so I can use the same tripod for my camera, my binoculars and my (short - 102/500) telescope

Very nice quality mount though you need a rather expensive adaptor to use the HEQ5 mount. With this adaptor it makes an excellent and stable grab and go mount.
