About this product

Model:  sw_synscan_wifi
Part Number:  20318

Plugs into the mount's handset port (via one of the supplied RJ12 -> RJ45 or RJ45 -> RJ45 cables) to provide wireless control from a smartphone or tablet using the SynScan or SynScan Pro app or, from a PC via ASCOM.

No batteries are required as the operating current is provided by the mount. (Please note the EQ6 PRO should be connected to the Wi-Fi Adaptor Module using the hand control cable originally supplied with the mount).

Creates it’s own Wi-Fi network, so the mount can be used anywhere without reliance on other Wi-Fi or mobile networks. After entering your coordinates into the relevant Synscan App and following a simple alignment procedure - you are ready to explore the universe using the App’s intuitive touchscreen menus.

Also supports the SkySafari Plus/Pro mobile planetarium App for Android and iOS (Please note that iOS connectivity at time of writing is currently limited and two devices are required).

The SynScan App and SynScan Pro App now support ASCOM for slewing, GOTO and Pulse Guiding. The Sky-Watcher ASCOM telescope driver can be downloaded from

Please note: This WiFi adapter replaces the mount's handset.

I replaced all my handsets with these!

This makes the whole synscan handset redundant. The app on IOS is so much easier to use IMHO and makes the polar alignment that much quicker and simpler too. I would say the Celestron app is way ahead though but none the less, I bought another one to replace both my synscan handsets as the functionality of the synscan app is all there.

Very easy, very good product

I am new to telescopes but bought a skywatcher with alt-az base as I believed it would help,,,, I was a little wrong and after reading the manual and watching countless videos was a little disappointed, this was until I saw the app for controlling as a pose to using the handset, on discovering this I decided I would purchase the wifi adapter so I could use my phone to control. Soooooo glad I did, very simple to pair them both and alignment is that much easier now, that i actually use the scope more often. I am now looking to purchase the auto focussed so with my lens camera I do not have to touch the scope and can work from indoors. Would highly recommend the wifi adapter.

Simple to Set Up and Easy to Use. Great with Stellarium.
Friday, 4 October 2019  |

I purchased this to connect to my Skywatcher Alt/Az Goto mount, replacing the rather clunky original handset. It was very easy to set up and although, owing to cloudy skies, I haven't used it in a live situation yet I do not anticipate any problems. First, I tried it using the free Android app on my Moto G5 and everything appeared to be working fine. As a test I then 'aligned' my scope by connecting it to Stellarium on my pc, it found all the targets chosen and aligned and tracked them without a problem. Then I tried using Stellarium itself to control the scope directly and again no problems. Finally I installed Stellarium Mobile Plus onto my 'phone and attempted to control the scope from the app. After a bit of fiddling to find the correct settings I could control the scope directly from Stellarium's sky view on my 'phone's screen.

As I said, I have not managed to use it in a live situation yet but look forward to great results. Highly recommended!

Great next day delivery from FLO.
Brilliant piece of kit works brilliantly. Just a few things that took time to works out . When you connect to your mount using the WiFi make sure that you switch off moblie data on your phone . Also make sure that sunscan app knows your location if it doesn't you will need to go into the app settings ( on your phone not through the app) and enable location in your phones app settings .

Proper armchair astronomy?
Saturday, 23 March 2019  |

I'll be honest, I bought this more out of curiosity than expecting great things from it ó it's a gadget after all. It worked well for a while, then decided to go feet up. FLO lived up to their deserved reputation, took it back, checked it over and replaced it. The replacement has worked flawlessly ever since I'm pleased to say.
I digress. My wife likes gadgets and astronomy, but not the discomfort of cold. So, I set this up on the little tabletop Skwatcher Mak and controlled it from her Galaxy S6 phone (so much easier operation than the handset). I took the next step and added her old Galaxy S3 to an adapter on the eyepiece of the Mak, having previously installed the Android Bluetooth Remote Camera app on the S3 and her Android tablet. Result: Full remote control of both 'scope and camera in the warmth of the house. Happy wife! Not only that, but the same arrangement works on my mounts right up to the 300p goto Flextube, just in case you wish to indulge your other half and trust them in control.
Go for it. You won't be disappointed.

SkyWatcher WiFi adaptrer

Nice small unit with cables to fit all scope mounts. Used initially on an Sky-Watcher AltAz GoTo mount and it fired up straight away. Have yet to try in on my NEQ 6 Pro as it is packed ready for an imminent house move, I don't however envisage any problems.

Instructions could be a little clearer but after a little bit of fiddling and reading the SGL forum, I had it up and running in about 15 Mins. Now need some clear skies to put it fully to the test.

One thing not clear is the scope starting position when using the click and go feature. I am assuming it needs to be facing North and at 0 degrees inclination to get in the region of the target.

Fundamentally good

The adaptor is great but let down by the poor Sky-Watcher app. Itís a little tricky to get working with the likes of SkySafari but once thatís up and running itís great!

Good hardware - poor software.

Simple to use and with comprehensive App
Friday, 29 June 2018  |

I'm using this with my NEQ6 and iPhone SE and have found it to be very simple to use with the app which itself is intuitive once you start using it. It's very easy to set up using time and location data in the phone and you're ready to start observing very quickly. With iPhone a separate iPad or computer is required for planetarium software but as a ready to use solution for observation this unit is ideal.
