The Sky-Watcher StarWand is a laser pointer for astronomy with a separate StarWand M Wi-Fi adaptor that plugs into a Synscan handset.

After alignment, the StarWand's 1mW laser can be pointed anywhere in the night sky. Then, using motion sensor technology, the StarWand automatically instructs a Synscan AZ, EQ Or AZ-EQ mount (with a Synscan handset fitted) to slew to that position.

From that approximate point, the user can make slewing adjustments using the handset controls to locate and centre the desired object. Quick, easy and fun.

Works with SynScan V3. V4 and V5 handsets (V3/4 firmware updates may be required).

Requires 1× 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion battery (not supplied).

NOTE: The Sky-watcher StarWand WiFi adaptor differs from the regular SynScan WiFi Adapter.

Great fun - bargain price

It is great fun! You place one battery in the StarWand. You connect the Wi-Fi adapter that comes in the box to the StarWand and they are aligned automatically. Afterwards you remove the Wi-Fi adapter from StarWand and insert it to Synscan Handbox. It does not come with a Handbox, You must have a Handbox already attached to your mount or order one separately. You level and align the scope with stars as usual. Then the magic can start. You can point the StarWand to any direction and press the laser button and the scope will GoTo that point. Not sure if it is perfectly accurate or not because I tried only indoors because of the clouds. By the way, the kit comes without a battery and therefore you have to buy a 18650 type rechargeable lithium battery and its charger that is widely available online.
