Optical Bench Test

FLO tests all Esprit telescopes before dispatch.

You can be confident your telescope will, from the outset, have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!).

Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!

Price includes a pre-dispatch optical bench test.

Sky-Watcher Professional ESPRIT 3-Element ED apochromatic refractors offer optical performance rivalling or exceeding similar telescopes from some high-end brands.

They are designed primarily for demanding astroimagers wanting high-contrast images full of detail and zero detectable colour fringing, even on the brightest of objects!

An M48-fitting doublet field flattener is also available to flatten the field and minimise aberration and distortion. The Esprit-100's imaging circle is 40mm when used with the field flattener.

The M48 fitting provides a large clear aperture to reduce halation. A precision thread ensures the triplet and doublet lens groups are precisely aligned on the optical axis perpendicular to the image.

The price includes a storage case.

Great service and will certainly be shopping with FLO again

Amazing and solid!
15 June 2022  |

This is one extremely well made piece of kit, for me it’s going to me a travel(ish) scope, originally I was looking at the 80mm but with the hood retracted and rings off for transportation the dimensions were not too dissimilar apart from the weight.

Needless to say I’m so happy with it. Optically wise it’s superb.

FLO were incredibly helpful - especially Steve thank you!

Esprit 100 ED PRO
01 May 2022  |

I purchased the Esprit 100 ED Pro from FLO in September 2021 and asked them to replace the stock focuser with a 3" FeatherTouch (part number A30-1903-102). Having seen how good the stock focuser is it probably wasn't necessary, but it's nice to know that the FeatherTouch will happily manage whatever camera I use. I did have to wait about 6 months for everything to arrive as unfortunately the first batch of Esprit 100s that arrived at FLO were faulty and had to be returned (FLO spotted the problem before they were sent to customers). For anyone else considering buying this scope and replacing the focuser with the 3" FeatherTouch, there are a few things you should be aware of beforehand. Firstly, the recommended 3" FeatherTouch for this scope is the A30-1903-102 which has only 38mm of back-focus. In order to reach focus, you need 87mm of back-focus, so some M65 threaded extension tubes are required. These are very hard to find, so you may need to have these custom made. I was able to find some from Cnscope in China and had them delivered within 2 weeks. I bought the 30mm and 39mm tubes and use them together. Secondly, after I started testing the Esprit 100 I noticed faint arcs on my images which didn't appear on the subs, but were quite noticeable once stacked. These turned out to be caused by internal reflections off the inner edge of the FeatherTouch endcap. I've since flocked this which has completely resolved the issue.

I've been using the Esprit 100 for about a month and have been fortunate to have had half a dozen or so imaging opportunities in this time. I'm very pleased with the performance of the optics and would happily recommend the instrument and the customer service I've received from FLO. The dedicated field flattener does a near-perfect job of flattening the whole image across the sensor of my Atik 460. I've never had stars this round across the whole image in the reflectors I've used over the past 10 years so this is a very welcome change. There is no visible chromatic aberration in my images, and even bright stars don't show any odd artefacts. This is certainly a keeper!

Esprit 100 ED PRO + EQ6R Pro
16 March 2022  |

I use my new Esprit 100 with EQ6R Pro + ASI air +DSLR. Only had one clear night, but managed to get a couple of hours on the Leo triplet of galaxies. Amazing result even after cropping. Perfect round stars on 5 mins subs, guided. Just need some clear moonless skies preferably at a weekend...

Esprit 100ED - A superb OTA
28 June 2021  |

First things first, the Esprit arrived with some cosmetic damage that appeared to have been caused at the site of manufacture. (The screws to secure the dew shield had caused some unsightly marks/scrathes on the OTA from the store position for the dew shade). As always with FLO, help and a remedy was immediately to hand. Turns out that a batch had issues with the securing screw pushing the felt onto the OTA. A liberal dose of lens cleaner applied with cotton buds worked the residue loose and it cleaned up perfectly.

I purchased the Esprit mid-summer only in anticipation of long delivery dates due to demand and the pandemic effect on supply and to be ready for autumn. First light was some lunar work and the arrival of Jupiter in the early morning sky. The Esprit is a superb performer. Beautiful, crisp images despite the sky never being completely dark at this time of the year. Sitting on an EQ6-R mount I cant wait to get going on some proper imaging once astronomical darkness returns. The OTA is solid and surprisingly, and satisfyingly, robust. The focus and fine focus wheels really do allow for precision focussing and even without being locked the focus doesn't drift. I'd done considerable research on a OTA for imaging and I'm pleased to report that I am delighted I opted for the Esprit. Is it expensive? Depends on your wallet, however with this instrument You get what you pay for. Highly recommended. As always full marks to the staff at FLO who played their part in the decision process based on knowledge and experience rather than just making a sale.

Esprit 100ed… Superb at First Light
21 June 2021  |

Finally got first light with my new Esprit 100ed and it didn’t disappoint… coupled with my ASI1600mm Pro it produced smooth details, no vignetting and pinpoint round stars all the way to the edge (I have a Skywatcher field flattener fitted)… This is a solidly built OTA and the focusing system is also great… Wholeheartedly Recommended

FLO team is amazing
21 April 2021  |

Hello,

I rarely post comments on the Internet. But here I feel it's my duty to do so.

I purchased this scope a couple of month ago, the whole process was flawless. I then purchased a focus motor and had some issues installing it. So I contacted FLO. They answered right away and solved my problem in a very short period of time. They actually sent me, free of charge, a replacement piece. Turned out, it was not the piece the problem but me...

Anyway, support like this is very rare and I want here to congratulate them for it.

Keep it this way FLO.

Thanks Alex and Andy !

Steve, a very happy customer.

Fantastic image quality
14 January 2021  |

I bought the Esprit 100ED only for imaging and the results from the first imaging run were jaw dropping good. The scope is my first 'quality' refractor, married to the field flattener and an ASI 1600MM-Pro the narrowband and RGB images are clear and sharp, suffice to say it is exactly what I wanted from a scope.
FLO's service was great as always.

Top Quality Scope
18 November 2018  |

I already had a Celestron Edge but wanted a traditional style scope too. When I bought this it was on good advice from FLO. I am only a beginner but like nice stuff. Lol. Excellent carry case for a start. I am happy to transport this anywhere in the case. The whole setup shouts quality and care. Superb finish, mechanics and glass. It was a good 2 weeks before I had a sky to try it and Oh man, I was impressed with the views. Seeing the Andromeda Galaxy for the first time was heart stopping. Lucky for me though it started again and I had an excellent evenings viewing. Jupiter looked like I could touch it. My Celestron AX mount didn't have the correct dovetail but I bought a Vixen dovetail and go an engineering company to drill and tap it correctly so it all fits. FLO were good with advice on these parts too.
A brilliant scope. Once I get a season of observation under my belt I can start using a camera with it.
