About this product

Model:  Quattro-f4-12S
Part Number:  10237

Sky-Watcher's largest premium imaging Newtonian with a wide field of illumination and fast f4 focal-ratio.

2" DUAL-SPEED LINEAR POWER FOCUSER: The new linear power focuser moves the drawtube using rollers rather than a rack and pinion for smooth, precise focus adjustment. The dual-speed feature has a second focus knob with a 10:1 speed reduction for super-fine adjustments. The focuser is perfectly adequate, but we think the telescope deserves better. If you agree, please contact us to discuss alternate focusers.

The paraboloidal primary mirror is made of low thermal expansion glass resulting in shorter cool-down times.

Regarding baffles: The Quattro-12S features a steel tube with a matte-black interior (it does not contain baffles like the smaller Quattro models). Some like baffles because they can prevent internal reflections and stiffen the tube. Some disagree, saying they push thermal currents into the light path (instead of allowing them to run up the tube and out the front). Both arguments are valid, but neither is definitive. For this, their largest Quattro telescope, Sky-Watcher, chose a smooth baffle-free interior.

An optically matched Aplanatic Coma Corrector is available for optimum performance.

Please note: Fast Newtonians are best suited to experienced astronomers. They require precise collimation and a Coma Corrector to reach their full potential. If you are unsure whether one will suit your requirements, please get in touch with us before placing an order smiley

Q1. Is the mirror made from Pyrex glass.

We are often asked this question. Sky-Watcher do not use Pyrex glass for their mirrors.
They used to (many years ago), but they now use an alternate low-expansion glass. There is no change in performance.
Some retailers still mistakenly use the old 'px' (px for Pyrex) product name. We suspect this is what is causing confusion.
