Simply level the tripod (near enough is good enough) and point your solar telescope anywhere to the left of the sun, Sky-Watcher's HelioFind™ Solar Alignment Technology will do the rest!
Built-in GPS automatically enters date, time and location then calculates the altitude and azimuth of the sun. The mount then points the telescope to the correct altitude and slews clockwise, hunting for the sun. When the Solar Sensor (photo diodes) detect the sun the mount lock onto it then silently tracks it, keeping it within the eyepiece's field of view.
Can be used by educational establishments, beginners and experienced observers alike.
The saddle can be removed, offset 90 degrees then refitted making it suitable for use with Skywatcher's L-Bracket (available separately).

I ordered my SolarQuest from FLO on Monday. It arrived in Norway the following Friday. This was seriously impressive, I think (is it DHL I should praise?). Prior to purchase, FLO responded promptly to my queries, so doing business with them was a breeze. A strong contender for my next purchase.
Excellent tracker and superb service

This tracking mount was ordered one day and delivered two days later - superb service! The mount was straightforward to fit on the tripod with an extension (advisable to avoid bending one's back too often). Of course I did not initially follow the instructions carefully enough and lined up the sun manually but the tracker immediately locked on to the sun and held it centrally in my Solarscope for the duration of the session. It also tracked silently. If you follow the instructions and just point it east of the sun it will automatically find the sun and lock on. Makes life much easier instead of having continually to realign the scope. Buy one! And buy it from First Light Optics for superb service. Also, when I had a query about my my camera (nothing to do with the purchase) I had a reply first thing the next working day. You can't beat this. Thank you FLO.

This mount is a little gem! I purchased the package with the tripod and extender which means it is at a perfect height for me. I attached my SolarScout DS60 pointed it to the left of the sun and gave it power. Waited a minute, looked in the eyepiece and there was the sun. Absolutely delighted and it arrived very quickly so well done FLO for fast delivery.

Bought it to use with my Coronado PST for solar imaging / viewing. Very easy to set up (with the PST on a dovetail plate) and finds and centres the sun perfectly and keeps it there - a marked improvement over constantly manually re-adjusting the view when mounted onto a camera tripod (my previous set-up).
With my imaging train being a ZWO174MM and attached x2 Barlow cell the solar disc fills the sensor, so initial positioning takes a couple of minutes (as the margin of error between complete disc and clipping top or bottom off is so small) but is well worth the effort - and may well not be as fiddly with a different camera. The SolarQuest allows for setting an offset for your specific set-up, so once you’ve managed that initial tweak to the positioning of the image the mount applies automatically in subsequent sessions.

Ordered for a used Lunt I recently acquired. Head arrived the next day, along with non-stop cloud coverage after 3 solid weeks of clear skies. Haven't been able to test it yet. Even with the cloud, I wouldn't spend my money anywhere else.
Peerless customer service, every time.

How refreshing to have a product out of the box that simply just works with the press of a button. No more manually tracking and tweaking with an EQ mount. And it tracks the sun for hours still being centred after that time. A fantastic purchase for solar observers.

Have been solar observing with my baby LUNT35 since 2012, chasing solar eclipse - seen over 45 ... This is a pleasure. No faff of guiding, tweaking, getting the Sun in view. Press the button and in less than 2 minutes the Sun is in view. And ... stays in view! For visual and DMK41 solar imaging. Perfect. wish I had it earlier!!! Would recommend any Solar observer!

I've had this mount a little while now, and used it with a Lunt 60, more recently I've purchased a DayStar Solar Scout SS60-DS 60mm.
This little mount handles both scopes equally well, I'm using just AA batteries at the moment and I did wonder if this may have been an issue, but I shouldn't have worried. The ability to just take it outside, put the mount down and press a button and the mount goes off and finds the sun is incredible.
The sun is rarely 100% dead centre, but is pretty close and has always been on the chip - and considering my chip doesn't allow full disc imaging thats perfect for me. I have left the mount and come back some considerable time later and the sun is pretty much where I left it.
No wires, no polar aligning, light weight. This mount is fantastic.

For the last few years my Coronado PST has been used on an ordinary camera tripod and although it benefits from a quick setup time with the forth coming transit of Mercury it was time for an upgrade.
This is an impressive piece of kit. The Coronado has its own solar finder and the Solar quest put the sun right in the middle first time out. The tracking is very good and using a ZWOASI220 mono was able to take a picture of a solar prominence. Only takes a little longer to setup over the camera tripod but is miles better. If you do any kind of solar observing I would highly recommend

Excellent service as usual from FLO
Does exactly as it says and within 1 minute successfully tracking the sun - Amazing especially as I only had 180 deg field of view and take any location and time calculations away
Also very light so I no longer need to up my flight baggage allowance so will save the cost in just two or three flights -also extremely sturdy even with a solarmax ii double stacked on it at 3.8Kg
Allow users to balance the scope on the mount
Make a German equatorial version
But I knew those limitations before purchase

Q1. Can this be used with an L-Bracket?
Yes - the dovetail saddle can be removed, offset 90 degrees and refitted to enable use with an L-Bracket.
Q2. Can I use an L-Bracket with the SolarQuest mount?
Yes but you need to rotate the saddle 90º. To do this, first remove the white cover circle from the side of the saddle to reveal 4x screws.
Remove the screws and rotate the saddle 90º.
Replace the screws.
You will likely find that the cover plate is no longer usable - it's almost impossible to remove it cleanly. Either do you best to re-attach it or leave it off - it is only there for aesthetics and won't affect the functionality of your mount.
Q3. Can I use a different power supply rather than the AA batteries?
Yes - the mount is supplied with a battery cover plate which goes in place instead of the battery holder and allows you to use a 12v DC center positive power supply. We recommend a Lynx Astro 12v DC mains power supply or a Celestron Lithium Powertank.
