Great scope for a good price
26 January 2024  |

I bought this scope to upgrade from my ST80 as I've gone back to doing visual only and this scope brings in more light than my ST80 will. I've only used it once but it was brilliant, I was surprised how much bigger it is than my ST80. Yes there is Chromatic aberration on this scope when looking at the moon or Jupiter but by putting the cover back on and removing the small cover the aperture is reduced and CA virtually gone and it doesn't bother me. Nice clear views of the moon and Jupiter and its moons. Not that I bought this scope for the moon, I bought it for Widefield views, Dsos and clusters. It surprisingly light for its size and paired it with my AzGti in az mode and no complaints.

Ordered on Christmas Day and delivered in the 28th. Great scope I’ve wanted for a while now to get explore my hobby with EAA, needed a fast refractor for this and imo it’s an perfect package that’s affordable and at the right weight to fit on my AZI GTI mount. Thanks FLO for the speedy delivery- just need clear skies now 👍🏼 James

Great beginner scope
06 October 2022  |

Almost completely new to astronomy (did have a very basic scope as a kid). Have to say, so far based on one evening of playing around the 102T exceeds my expectations. Very solidly built, and views of brighter objects (moon etc) show much less chromatic aberation than I was expecting from other comments about lower end APO refractors. I'm still in the learning process of getting the mount properly aligned, and everything dialled in - but am very happy with this as a starting off scope. Excellent for the low price. Delivery and service were great too.

Relief
11 April 2022  |

My son declared he wanted a telescope for Christmas !! After making a horrendous purchase choice last November (Celestron Powerseeker 127, mainly due to lack of stock) my conscience was so great I felt obliged to right a wrong & this time decided to research, that, with seeing what was available within a specific budget decided upon the SW 102r OTA. Glad I did? Yes, well, first of all, FLO as per usual delivered within 36 hours (thumbs up there), secondly, my thinking was nothing could be worse than the previous purchase. The SW 102r OTA has surpassed all my expectations and more. After hearing horror stories of CA, it is there but expected worse on bright objects & can be taken out of images with Photoshop. It's very portable, fully operational within 1 minute & even on a crappy EQ1 mount any wobble has gone well within 3 seconds, also it is more stable in windy conditions. As usual the supplied eyepieces have a lot to be desired but saying that, the 25mm is most usable but upgrades vastly improve matters, also, will be upgrading the diagonal to a 90deg. dielectric. Focuser is not the worst I have experienced nor as bad as some reports, but not the best. Swapped out the supplied RDF to one purchased earlier, (supplied one felt sloppy). On the only clear sky (partial) in the past week, views & images of the Moon have been a joy, although smaller than through the reflector we now have sharp detail (to have any detail is a novelty), stars are pinpoint. Not had a chance to target DSO's yet due to cloud cover but I am ever hopeful. In all, this item is well worth the price & have no regrets making this purchase. Good job all round. Remember, Space is Deep.

My step up from an ST80
20 March 2022  |

I'm very pleased with this economical refractor. Weight and size wise it perfectly suits my Az GTI mount. Despite a washed out sky last night due to the moon and local light pollution I was able to get very clear crisp views of the Pleiades and other objects. I have upgraded the focuser with a Skywatcher auto focuser which I had lying around and it makes a great difference. Having said that the original focuser was better than I had expected.
Once again excellent service from FLO, delivery was very quick.

A great compact telescope
06 March 2022  |

I am so pleased that I decided to get this instrument. I use it on a Sky-Watcher Star Discovery WiFi AZ Go-To Astronomy Mount & Tripod; the results after a couple of sessions of use are great.
Visually the view of M42 in Orion is excellent, and I was just amazed when I saw the display on the back of my DSLR camera after taking the very first image of M42 with a 20 second exposure. I look forward to a lot of fun with this instrument in the future.
Great service as always from FLO, the review is only posted now that I have had the chance to get the telescope to somewhere with a reasonably dark sky.

Startravel 102 OTA review
31 January 2021  |

I was impressed and surprised by how quickly FLO were able to supply me with this product under the circumstances - superb service as always.

I was able to test this scope on an almost full moon this week and in summary I’m delighted by the performance overall.

I used the OTA with an EQ1 mount and tested with a range of eyepieces - including a 25mm Plossl with and without a 2x Barlow, and a Synta 8-24mm zoom. A moon filter was used to control brightness. In all cases the clarity of the optics was apparent - crystal clear images that are all the more impressive considering the price of this product. The Tycho crater was ultra sharp and a host of other clear lunar detail was in abundance. I’d expected considerably more chromatic aberration bring an achromat, but there was really only very minor violet fringe evident - excellent performance and a great price. Highly recommended.
