Chris Grimmer writing for BBC Sky @ Night Magazine

"The 130PHQ has a 60mm image circle designed for medium-format cameras, so we were very impressed with how good the stars were into the very far corners and how slight the vignette was on the full-frame DSLR. With everything set up, we set our DSLR to run for an hour, capturing 30-second exposures. Downloading the images the following morning reconfirmed our initial positive impressions of image quality and flatness of the field, which made final processing easy. It also confirmed the focuser had maintained perfect focus across the night of imaging, despite a 15° Celsius temperature drop from warm spring day to cold spring night.

With its weight and size placing it at the top end of the amateur market, Askar's 130PHQ flat-field apo refractor is a telescope that will not fail to impress the most advanced imager. It may not be as portable as the 107PHQ, but what it lacks in portability it more than makes up for in quality. Askar has again produced a quality astrograph."

Optical Bench Test

At FLO, we check all our Askar telescopes on an optical bench before dispatch.

So you can be confident your telescope will have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!

The new, larger version of Askar's highly successful 107PHQ telescope.

An excellent telescope for imaging small to medium-sized deep-sky targets.

The Askar 130PHQ telescope features a 4-element, f/7.7 optical design (triplet + integrated field flattener) with two ED glass lenses for outstanding colour correction.

The integrated flattener provides a 60mm imaging circle, making the 130PHQ suitable for use with full-format sensors. No additional field flattener is necessary.

For the ultra-high resolution, full format sensors found in modern astronomy cameras, like the ZWO ASI-6200, an optional 0.7x Reducer (reduces focal length to 700mm focal ratio to F5.4) is available that provides even smaller spot sizes off-axis.

The sturdy 3.4" Dual Speed Rack and Pinion focuser is fully rotatable and capable of handling loads up to 8kg. A visual adaptor is also included, enabling 2" and 1.25" accessories.

With the visual adapter removed, the focuser tube terminates with an M86x1 thread. The telescope includes four stackable adapters for direct attachment of a wide variety of cameras with standard metric threads.

The scope has a premium fit and finish and includes a set of tube rings, a Vixen-style dovetail and a carry handle with mounting holes for additional accessories.

A standard Finderscope adaptor, compatible with many Finderscopes and Finder/Guidescopes, and a foam-filled metal carry case are also included.
