Optical Bench Test

At FLO, we check all our Askar telescopes on an optical bench before dispatch.

So you can be confident your telescope will have well-figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!). Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!

New ASKAR FRA600 108mm f/5.6 Flatfield Astrograph

The Askar FRA600 (Flatfield Refractive Astrograph) has a 5-element Petzval optical design (front triplet and rear doublet) with two ED glass elements for excellent colour correction.

The imaging circle is an impressive 66mm - larger than a full-frame sensor!

The two rear lenses have an 80mm diameter to reduce vignetting and ensure the scope delivers pinpoint stars to the edge.

It also performs well as a rich field telescope for visual astronomy (star diagonal not included).

The large 4.2” Rack & Pinion dual-speed focuser is fully rotatable through 360 degrees. The focuser tube terminates with an M90x1 thread for direct camera attachment and includes a handy conical M90-M54/M48 adapter suitable for connecting most DSLR and dedicated Astro Imaging cameras. It also has a 2” adapter ring and a 1.25”-2” adapter for use with diagonals, eyepieces, or smaller cameras.

The FRA600 is supplied with aluminium tube-rings, a Losmandy-style dovetail, and a carrying handle. The rings have additional mounting points for accessories.

The entire telescope is just 493mm long, with the dew shield retracted and weighs 6.5kg.
