...It's a very short tube system, and the dew shield is removable, all of which adds up to a great get-up-and-go-anywhere telescope... Overall, the Evostar 72ED DS-Pro was a satisfying, lightweight scope to use. BBC Sky at Night Magazine, July 2018 - Read full review

Evostar 72ED DS-Pro - highly recommended.

Evostar 72ED DS-Pro its a very nice high quality telescope. Easy to use, image is crystal clear with the eye pieces I've order separate.
It's coming with a case, which is very helpful, but you have to order the Star Diagonal and eye pieces separately which will add an extra cost.
Shipping was fast (2-3 days) and communication with FLO was outstanding.

Bought for travel and it didn't disappoint when used with a flattener on a light 5kg capacity mount. Sturdy box, super light OTA and after tweaking the tension on the focus tube to suit my needs (it was factory set quite light for me) focusing is a breeze and the movement very smooth. The focuser holds a fair bit of equipment even at the zenith without having to use the draw tube locking screw.

Viewing and AP has clear, crisp definition and little if any CA that I could see.

The end cap is a push fit and not a screw and the only niggle was the length of the vixen bar. It is just too short and I needed a longer one to achieve balance for AP. Hopefully skywatcher will consider this as that is the only minor thing.

Service from FLO, as usual, was excellent.

Evostar 72ED DS-Pro OTA

Bought this to use with an AZ-GTI mount as a grab and go system - both at home and when away under darker skies than we get in Bristol. Both sit nicely on a heavy duty photo tripod.

The telescope looks very well made, fits well in it's case, feels as if it will be very secure when carried about. Impressed by the telescopes' lightness. The focuser was better than I expected, very smooth and feels solid. DSLR photography definitely an option. I really like the screw in lens cap, much better than the plastic one on my ED120

As per Flo's promise, it came very quickly with just a touch of light snow the day after and not a star visible in the sky since it arrived - how do they do it?

So I have examined a number of distant TV arials through a variety of eyepieces/barlows from about 13x to about 200x and I am impressed by how easily it focusses and how sharp the view is. I think that there is a tiny amount of fringing at the highest magnifications, but I'm looking at a small grey object against a grey background at anything up to 200m away in conditions that can only be described as murky. I think that it will be just the job as a portable lunar and wide field instrument. It'll be practical to leave it set up in the garage so that I can walk it out for a quick look at something thats in the sky when the conditions or the time I have available make putting up a bigger scope/mount pointless.

So very pleased, though it would be possible if I felt mean to dock a half star for the very short dovetail bar and the not very nice visual back, both of which I have replaced

Superb telescope . It is giving great widefield images of Deep sky objects like NGC7000 and IC1396. Perfect guiding with the Evoguide50 guidescope.. Exposures of up to 10 min or more are now possible On my NEQ6 Pro mount. Overall a great little scope .. I highly recommend it....

FAQ

Q1. What is the tube diameter?

75mm for the main body, around 90mm for the dew shield section.

Q2. Can you recommend a longer dovetail that makes it easier to balance the telescope?

The Astro Essentials 'Short' dovetail works well:
https://www.firstlightoptics.com/dovetails-saddles-clamps/astro-essentials-dovetail-bars.html
And a set of these screws (Sky-Watcher's 72ED's tube-rings use different screws to the other ED scope's).
https://www.firstlightoptics.com/misc/m6-bolts-x2-suitable-for-sky-watcher-st80-tube-rings.html
The dovetail fits the the 72ED tube-rings perfectly and makes it easier to balance the telescope.

Q3. How much does it weigh?

It weights around 1.95kg with rings and dovetail but without any other accessories.
