Optical Bench Test

FLO tests all Esprit telescopes before dispatch.

You can be confident your telescope will, from the outset, have well figured optics, negligible false colour and spherical aberration, and no astigmatism (the bane of any optical system!).

Star shapes will be round, not triangular, oval or egg-shaped!

Price includes a pre-dispatch optical bench test.

The new Sky-Watcher Professional ESPRIT 3-Element ED apochromatic refractors offer optical performance rivalling or exceeding similar telescopes from some famous high-end brands.

They are designed primarily for demanding astroimagers wanting high-contrast images full of detail and zero detectable colour fringing, even on the brightest of objects!

840mm f/7 focal length.

Sky-Watcher Esprit 120 Review by SkyNews Magazine:

"The Esprit 120 has a triplet objective with one element made of prized Ohara S-FPL53 glass. I compared its performance with high-end Officina Stellare and Astro-Physics 105mm and 130mm apos employing similar premium glass. Even at high magnification with a 3mm eyepiece, star images appeared just as sharp, aberration-free and colourless as the best. I was impressed.
On subzero (°C) nights once the telescope cooled down (after 30 to 45 minutes), it exhibited none of the aberration oddities I’ve seen in some test telescopes, effects created by cold temperatures pinching optics. This is evidence of the Esprit’s excellent lens cell design, the area where aspiring apos sometimes fall short."

A dedicated Sky-Watcher Field Flattener is available that provides a wide 44mm imaging circle for use with a DSLR or other imaging device with a large sensor.

The price includes a storage case.

Sky-Watcher Esprit 120 ED APO PRO
29 December 2021  |

I have been hankering for owning a triplet refractor and after much trawling the forums and reviews as well as colleague having an assortment of them the Esprite 120 ED APO was top of my list
It actually came down to two the 150 ED APO was in there - however trying to be practical and not having a dedicated spot for an 'observatory' set up and that I am getting no older, weight & set-up became key
So the 120 ED won out - Having received this unit it was clear I had made the right choice for me and my goals
This refractor is really good, at just shy of 5" objective the unit does weigh 10kg bare but once mounted and balanced the viewing is stunning for it's size
Because of this persistent bad nighttime weather I have only had 2 x 40mins sessions to 'play' with the scope (and it's ancillaries) in clear skies - only enough time for viewing
The views through it were excellent - focusing was easy - obviously the 1:11 fine tune came into play and made the Bahtinov 'asterisk' centering very simple
Have spent more time terrestrial viewing and setting up where possible - this was a delight too with A4 sized test pieces set at 510m distant coming into crystal clear focus
What I have been able to test so far has given excellent results - I will need to review the scope properly once we get clear skies in the UK - hopefully soon?
Once again thanks to FLO for coming through with delivery of this unit in these very trying times - not forgetting the good advice - it certainly is working out well for me and my aspirations going forward
As it stands so far this scope is well worth the money and as such I highly recommend it

Esprit 120
23 December 2019  |

Bought the Esprit 120 in October as an upgrade for my ED80, the delivery (to Belgium) took 4 days, actually shipping took less than 24hrs, it just sat at FLO for 3 days after ordering, so all n all thats reasonably fast, good job FLO !
The Esprit is on another level compared to the Evostar APO line, everything looks and feels top quality.
I haven't used the scope visually, it went strait on the mount and my ASI 1600 attached to it.
Currently i'm using the scope @ F5,25 by means of a 0,75 reducer and the testshots were very good (posted on SGL), this telescope is definitely on par with higher priced scopes.
The only comment i have was that the focuser needed some adjusting, my Sesto Senso had some trouble at first, but all got sorted fairly quick and easy.

The Excellent Esprit
02 April 2017  |

I had some doubts about spending this amount of money on a refractor when I already have a 10" RC that is outstanding for imaging Galaxies etc. But I needed something with a medium focal length for the larger nebulae so braced myself and parted with the cash. I did contemplate sending it back before I used it; glad I didn't. Whilst I have never used another APO of comparable size this OTA has delighted me - the reviews seem to have been spot-on. In spite of what has been written about it I did expect some colour fringing but I am yet to see any at all. I do have the flattener although I don't need it for my current chip size - I bought it intending to go to large format imaging at some stage. Anybody looking for a high quality, mid-sized APO would do well to beat this and I suspect that in terms of value-for-money it is top of the pile. Unless one has cash to burn I can see no earthly reason for the average amateur to spend twice the money (and more) on one of the top Brand names. I really didn't expect it to be this good. JB

Espirit 120

Superb scope, I also bought the Hotech flattener thinking I would need it but I don't have any curvature at all at the edge of the fov so haven't used it yet.
I'm getting much clearer detail for my spectroscopy than I did with my old C8. Highly recommended!
