Model: skwatcher_300p_goto_dobsonianPart Number: 10226
Combining the power of a large optical tube, the portability of the patented collapsible FlexTube design and SynScan computerised Go-To technology. The new Skyliner FlexTube Synscan Dobsonians bring over 42,900 celestial objects right in front of your eyes, and automatically track them as they move across the night sky.
The patented dual-encoder design allows you to manually move the telescope anytime and to anywhere you wish - with no need for realignment. Slewing to an object on the opposite side of the night sky no longer feels like watching a kettle boil. Simply push the tube close to the object and let the computer do the rest of the work.
Using 2" eyepieces, this scope gives absolutely superb views. The only thing I would reccomend changing, is the focuser. The Skywatcher focuser that comes with it is a bit cheap and flimsy, and really could do with something like a Moonlite focuser. Using a 20mm 100afov ep gives a tremendous view of Andromeda, and with a 2x Barlow, the view of M13 is really fantastic, and so are most of the other views, as well. However, the 300p does have a serious downside. It's no lightweight. You need hydraulic arms and legs to move this beast around, and if you plan on taking it out to a dark site, you also need a biggish car as well. It's not small. Overall, I would certainly reccomend this scope, but be prepared for the size and weight.
The diameter of the mount base is 65 cm. The height when collapsed for storage is 120 cm. When extended the eyepiece is approximately at eye-level. Tube weight is approx 27 kg. Mount / rocker-box weight is 36 kg.
