Astrophotography is easy with this compact Newtonian from the TS-PHOTON series. With an aperture ratio of 1:4, this astrograph offers you pure light intensity and thus short exposure times. With the addition of a coma corrector the PHOTON f/4 Newtonian becomes a fast high quality astrograph.
With a weight of around 5kg and a length of only 53cm, the PHOTON f/4 Newtonian is an ideal travel telescope. For wide-field observations, you can even mount the telescope on a good photo tripod - the included dovetail has a 1/4 "tripod thread on its base.
A good coma corrector turns this Newtonian into a real astrograph, our recommendation is the TSGPU Superflat corrector, which is made for this telescope. It will offer you the highest sharpness in the entire field.
The PHOTON 6" f/4 is also suitable for the TS2KORRR reducer / corrector. The corrector turns the already bright f/4 Newtonian into a fast astrograph with an aperture ratio of f/2.9. The exposure time is reduced by about half. Sensors up to 30 mm in diameter can be used.
I purchased this scope for wide field AP with reasonably fast optics. In this respect it does appear to work pretty well. So far I have had nothing but clouds so I have only been able to take a few test shots - but these appear to be pretty good. I do have a couple of minor gripes, given this is sold as a scope for AP. Firstly, there is a lot of space around the primary mirror which will let light in during imaging so I have had to make a 'shower cap' to go over the end of the scope to keep stray light out. The other issue is the focuser. Although it holds well with a camera and filter wheel, there is no facility to adjust it. As there is a fair bit of tilt this will be a problem for imaging. I am planning to upgrade fairly soon so this is not a major problem for me, but for AP you should have some adjustment. The only other point was the collimation on arrival. Clearly there had been no attempt to collimate the scope in the factory - it was that far out. Not a major problem and easy to rectify, but maybe indicative of the quality generally.Service from FLO was spot on as usual. Ordered at the weekend and arrived on the Tuesday.
This is the first "Astro-graph" I have bought. The overall appearance is very nice and it has a real quality feel to it. The focuser feels butter smooth but solid and has been a pleasure to use. Bought with a matched focus mask, achieving accurate focus has been very easy. Collimation also was not too bad considering the fast f4 optics. The overall weight is very manageable even for smaller mounts.I bought this to use with a camera for video imaging. Being an f4 exposure times are very short, I was amazed at how short I could go, Very happy with the purchase and looking forward to using the scope in earnest in the season to come.
From Gary in Derbyshire I had received my TS Photon 154mm f4 promptly and all in excellent condition, but hadn’t had the opportunity to use it all until early this morning. Shortly after I had woken up, at 04.30 hours, I was greeted by a clear sky, not what I had expected, as we had experienced almost a month of overcast skies. However, this morning the waxing almost full moon was beginning to set over the hills opposite me. To start I simply put a 26mm Meade Super Plossl eyepiece into the eyepiece holder and enjoyed the view; I then replaced it with an ED 12mm Starguider eyepiece. Not having consulted my star chart app for a few days, and certainly not expecting to do any observing at this hour of the day. So, I was somewhat astonished to find myself looking at a planet! It was a cool, silvery blue - and it was Neptune, a tiny pinhead beauty.. I have to say that I am very pleased with the oversized primary mirror of this telescope, it dazzles with high reflectivity.. I would also like to thank FLO for their usual fast, professional service.
Solid and good quality materials. Amazing optic. Definitely, I recommend this product. Very fast shipping: from UK to Chile in 3 days!
