About this product
Model: wo_spacecat_51_wifd
Part Number: L-RC51SGIII+CAT TOY
NEW updated SpaceCat v3 51mm f/4.9 Petzval refractor with internal WIFD focuser and synthetic fluoride (FPL53 and FPL51) glass elements for a full-frame, flat field image.
The SpaceCat 51 is based on the latest version of the Redcat 51 and features the same tried-and-tested optics as previous versions, so it provides high-resolution images when used for astrophotography or wildlife photography.
Its fast f/4.9 focal ratio and compact size make it ideal for convenient wide-field astrophotography, and the WIFD (William Optics Internal Focuser Design) is integrated inside the main tube assembly, so no focuser drawtube movement is visible from the outside.
One of the most significant benefits of the WIFD is that you can add several heavy accessories to your imaging train, such as a large filter wheel or rotator, without worrying about sag from the telescope focuser drawtube and the resultant tilt of the sensor with reference to the optical axis.

Further improvements include out-of-the-box compatibility with the ZWO EAF Auto Focuser.
Also included is a built-in Filter Drawer for 2" Filters and a Tilt Adapter.

So I've had this for over a week now and finally had the chance to use it last night...for 30 minutes before the clouds rolled in. However was very happy with the FOV it gives. Managed to fit the entire North America nebula in the frame (and then some) and got a few very good initial images from it. Love the design, love the colour (hate red so that's why I went for the spacecat). The feel of everything is good and solid. The focuser is extremely smooth. Very impressed with the scope. However, one drawback is the locking nut for the focuser is very difficult to get at with my sausage fingers. Far too close to the dovetail bar, so I plan on machining an aluminum block to raise the scope up a bit. But, thats a minor thing that will be overcome. Can't wait to get the hours in with this. I'm excited to see the end results. Just need the weather to get it's act together.
