Astro Essential colour filters for astronomy are most often used to enhance contrast when observing the Moon and planets.
Results depend on seeing conditions, the telescope and the target being observed or photographed but the right filter can make a significant difference when, for example, viewing the lunar surface or teasing detail from Jupiter's weather bands or Saturn's rings.
See our handy guide to colour filters and how they can help improve your lunar and planetary visual observing.
I can't comment on its performance on its own, but if you pair this up with a light pollution filter it provides a very nice contrast boost for planetary observing. Using it with a 130pds and works exceptionally well with sv215 eyepiece and 8mm BST starguider with X2 Barlow.
I bought this to try to reduce the chromatic aberration I was seeing through my Sky-Watcher Evostar 120 achromatic refractor. It certainly reduced it on Jupiter, giving it a slightly yellowish appearance - which was quite pleasant to see. It also enhanced the contrast of the bands, which a benefit that I hadn't envisage at the time I bought it primarily to deal with the CA.
Bought this to reduce the chromatic aberration effects of my achromatic refractor - image is sharper without changing the colour of the moon too much. Also great to reduce the purple halo seen around the sun using these cheap telescopes (using with an appropriate white light solar filter).
Purchased 4 filters and 1 included for free. Used the light yellow filter on the Moon, Mars and even the Stars in the Pleiades. Works well and brightens up the view.
The housing measures 7.5mm plus 2.5mm for the thread.
