Excellent optics
23 August 2022  |

Excellent binoculars. I bought the 8x42 Vortex Crossfire HD and can confirm they are great for bird watching being very tough. Views through the eyepieces are very clear, bright and with no colour fringing at all. Close focusing to around 2.5m was easily achievable. The eye relief of around 17mm max was made with the retractable lens cups. I wish all binoculars had these. The weight is very light and I imagine great for a day of walking not that I have chance to do that yet.

They are let down by the appallingly bad Glasspak binocular harness but I am not marking the binoculars down as some people may like the strange strap system. Not only is it very difficult to fit but trying to get into it is demanding. Nowhere for the eyepiece cover to go and then a bunch of unruly straps to contend with when trying to store the cased binoculars.
I have decided to ditch the Glasspak straps and just use the neck strap which is fine. However I have to put the empty case into a rucksack, while the binos are around my neck, as the Glasspak strap seems to be the only way of carrying the empty case. No Glasspak system for me.

However the binoculars are great for this price and are well recommended.

Quality stuff!

First impression is that they're built like a brick outhouse, which is good because they will be dropped at some point I'm sure. I got them to do some plane spotting as there's a small airport nearby that fly some WW2 planes in the summer. Haven't seen them yet but testing them out on birds has shown the amount of colour and detail you get through these binoculars, pretty good for the money! Very happy!
