The ASI 485MC is a new (Sep 2021) USB 3.0 OSC planetary camera featuring the high resolution (3840 x 2160) Sony IMX485 sensor with small 2.9μm square pixels, 13ke- full-well depth, high sensitivity and super low read out noise.

An excellent camera for solar, lunar and planetary imaging. It can also be used as a live streaming or all-sky camera to observe or monitor weather conditions.

Camera Field of View Simulator

1/1.2” 8MP backlit sensor

Compared to the ZWO ASI 482MC, this camera has the same physical sensor size but smaller 2.9 μm pixels so much higher resolution. 

The sensor length and width are 11.13mm x 6.26mm. The diagonal is 12.86mm. 

The total number of pixels is 8.28 million. 

Extremely high sensitivity

The back-illuminated Sony CMOS sensor reduces readout noise and enhances sensitivity.

The sensor also utilises STARVIS™ technology for excellent results at low illumination and high image quality in the visible-light and near infrared light regions.

These features combined with the sensor size make the ASI485MC camera an excellent choice for solar, lunar and planetary imaging. It can also be used as a live streaming or all-sky camera to observe or monitor weather conditions. 

HCG Mode

ASI485MC has a built-in HCG mode which can effectively reduce the readout noise at high gain and keep the same wide dynamic range as you would expect at low gain. When the gain is 80, the HCG mode will automatically turn on. The read out noise fall off a cliff while the dynamic range still can reach close to 11 stops. The minimum read noise is 0.7e.

QE curve

ZWO estimate a QE peak value of ASI485MC of 85% at 530nm.

USB 3.0 Port & ST4 Port

USB 3.0 Port: Like other ASI cameras, the ASI 485MC is powered and controlled via USB 3.0. The 5Gb bandwidth enables the camera to run at 39fps (10bit, high speed mode) or 27.2fps (12bit, normal mode) at full resolution (8.2 Mp).

ST4 Port: Used for direct connection to a suitably specified mount for auto-guiding.
