Model: zwo_tc40_cf_tripodPart Number: ZWO-TC40
The adjustable dual section legs provide a stable and rigid platform for telescopes and cameras.
I hesitated with this upgrade for a while, having used what I considered a fairly sturdy photographic tripod from a well known manufacturer with my 430mm refractor. However, with the newly assembled 6”RCT and AM3 I didn’t feel confident, especially with regards to vibration. The TC40 is an entirely different beast. Very light but extremely strong and, like other ZWO purchased recently, very well made and a pleasure to use. It comes with optional spikes which are great for grass when rubber stubs can slip. Once locked, there is no wobble or movement even with the legs extendedI really like the clamping mechanism. I can now leave the whole scope/asiair/mount unit assembled when travelling, set the tripod up and just connect the mount without fiddly screws or tools that can get lost in the dark. A bit like a bayonet mechanism but rotates 360 degree. I use mine with the ZWO 160mm pier extension which is also beautifully machined. I can’t fault it, there is simply nothing I don’t like about itYes, it’s not cheap but probably the last tripod you will ever buy. Great service from FLO, almost next day delivery despite living on an island
I recently bought the AM5 to get me to visit remote sites for imaging. I went with the TC40 as its has been purposely designed and built for supporting the AM3/AM5 for such a reason. I can report that it supports an Esprit 120 and accessories weighting in at 14.5Kgs easily. Just remember to or accommodate for possible balance issues when using a large weighted telescope east and west of the pier or mount head. Safety first as you don't want to damage or lose a prized telescope. So, weight the mount down using a suitable weight in the accessory tray. Fantastic support and delivery from FLO as is to be expected.
