Astrodymium Ring System with ZWO EAF & ASIAIR Mount for Samyang / Rokinon 135mm f/2 Lens

The Astrodymium Ring System is an all in one mounting & autofocusing solution to using the Rokinon/Samyang 135mm F2 lens for astrophotography.

The ring system allows a ZWO ASIAIR, EAF, and any guidescope to be easily attached to the 135mm lens, making it a versatile tool for capturing stunning astrophotography images.

Allen hex keys are now included.

Experience Hassle-Free Imaging Sessions With Autofocus

With a ZWO EAF, and the EAF adapter add-on: it becomes possible to remotely control the focus on the 135mm lens - allowing you to fully automate your imaging sessions. No more worrying about focus shift due to temperature changes or filter offsets!

Quick and Convenient to Install and Remove

The included rings (lens collar) securely hold the lens, and use a hinged design, making it possible to remove/install the lens without needing to remove your camera first. No tools are needed to loosen or tighten the rings down onto the lens.

Attaching a Guidescope is Easy

Simply slide the guidescope into the included top rail, and secure it with the two thumbscrews. This rail also works with other accessories that have a vixen style dovetail! (such as an ASIAIR).

Mount All Your Astro Accessories

On the sides of the rings are mounting points for easy attachment of extra accessories, such as an ASIAIR Pro/Plus/PPB Micro, with the optional mounting plate add-on. Alternatively, you can purchase another rail and attach any astro accessory that has a vixen style dovetail instead.

All parts for the Ring System are 3D printed out of durable PETG plastic that can handle temperatures of up to 80C (176F), and down to -25C (-13F). Each threaded point uses stainless steel threads for a strong and corrosion resistant connection.

Screws for connecting the rings to a dovetail bar are included.

High Quality printed parts, robust design

I am very pleased at how well it went together and how robust it feels. The parts are printed with a high density and tolerances are good. Combined with a ZWO EAF it is really easy to get auto-focusing working and it works reliably and consistently without flexing the brackets. I've added a Raspberry Pi4 running Astroberry to make a compact ready assembled budget widefield imaging package. For those interested I found the maximum number of steps with the EAF to be around 21050. I havent tuned the backfocus yet but infinity seems to be around 800 steps from 0 (reverse stepping).

I read about the camera rotation procedure and was a bit concerned but actually it is simple and quick to do - you just need to practice it once or twice in the daylight. You need to remember that in the new rotation the EAF 0 point has changed.

I have a small quality of life suggestion that perhaps the designer can consider: I image with an ASI1600MM pro and filter wheel, I also use an ZWO 30mm guidescope with AS120mm mini. If the Accessory Rail extended 2 cm out towards the lens hood and a 4th hole was made for a locking screw then it would be much easier to position the guidescope+USB cable not to clash with the filter wheel as I rotate the lens for framing. As I have it now the guidescope shoe is as far forward as possible and is just retained by two screws. I've adjusted the focus so I can push the ASI120 further in to the guidescope tube. That gives me a few mm of clearance now with the USB cable plugged in.

All in all I'm very pleased with the result. It is much better than my own 3d printed solution that didn't survive more than two sessions. but then perhaps I'l print my own guidescope holder .

Really good.

Not had a chance to use this yet in the field, but I have put the rig together which was pretty easy, very well made too! I have deducted one star for two reason. Firstly I would have liked the AAP mount to be included in the kit and not have to have bought it separately, but I see why as others may not require it and also the screws to close the rings go from underneath up and always fall out when opening, a simple washer, holder or thread on the lower ring would have helped here, but overall really good product.

Excellent

Brilliant product, and exactly what I was looking for. I can tell that a lot of thought went into making this. It fits my rokinon 135 lens perfectly and basically turns it into a telescope. I had no issues installing the EAF and attaching my guidescope.

Well built piece of kit for the Samyang 135mm lens. Also enables the fitting of a ZWO EAF. Exactly what I wanted and delivered quickly from the team at FLO.
Also exceptional advice from the folk at FLO, as always. Many thanks.

Samyang 135mm F2/2 Lens holder

Really impressed with the product and they even have 3d printed dividers in the packaging itself. The 3d printed parts really hold the lens well and looking forward to first light with this as soon as the clouds depart!

Best one so far
15 April 2022  |

Note: I bought this directly from Astrodymium before FLO started selling them.

This is now my third(!) set of 3D printed rings, and the Astrodymium is the best one by a long shot! The material used here feels solid, and all parts fit well together. There is no slop or movement when attached to the lens. And now you no longer have to MacGyver something to use your ZWO EAF! Just two screws, and you are done!

I removed a star due to the dovetail screws being made out of cheap soft metal. One of mine got stuck after the threads stripped off in the hex nut. In the end, I had to cut it out. Replace them with something better!
