Astro Essentials 1.25" Laser Collimator

Simple, easy to use accessory for rapid and precise collimation ensures you get the best views possible with your Newtonian reflector telescope.

Nicely made, CNC machined Aluminium with a black anodised surface and useful grip.

Requires 3x LR44 batteries (supplied).

Note 1: Prior to using a laser you will need to first check/set a Newtonian telescope's secondary mirror using a sight-tube. Fortunately once set it rarely needs further adjustment. 

Note 2: For any laser collimator to be effective it needs to be fitted to a well-made focuser. The regular rack-and-pinion style focuser fitted to many beginner/intermediate telescopes lacks precision and rigidity. If in doubt please contact us for advice.

I am new to astronomy and am aware that I need to collimate my new telescope. This collimator has a heavy, solid and confident feel while the laser is bright and clear. However, it does not come with any instructions which seems strange. Also, there isn't a 'target' for the primary mirror check. So, I am pretty confident that I have done the collimation properly (thanks to YouTube) but instructions would have been useful.

A solidly made laser collimator that is league’s ahead of the usual eBay trash. The laser was pretty much collimated when it arrived and had the three L44 batteries included. The laser is nice and bright and the unit fits well into the focuser. All in all a great purchase and great service from FLO as is the norm

It's heavy and the build quality is solid. I seen a great video on YouTube about checking a lasers alignment so before starting the collimation of my telescope I performed a quick test in a bracket to see if the laser itself was collimated. Sure enough it was out a little, but with easy access to the 3 collimation Allen screws in the side of the laser I was able to make some slight adjustments and it is now perfect.
The barrel is a good fit in my focuser but there is a little bit of play. I rectified this by applying 1 strip of tape around the end of it and it now fits completely snug inside the focuser with zero play.
I would highly recommend this laser but to get the most out of it I recommend you to follow the steps I took for a really high level of accuracy.
